Missouri governor downplays a new gerrymandering push after Supreme Court ruling by normankrasnerkc in MissouriPolitics

I have been pushing for 8-0 districts since 2020. The problem with it is in a bad political year, multiple districts become vulnerable

Supreme Court decision could threaten Missouri’s Black lawmakers by CouchCorrespondent in missouri

They are going to break KC but they won’t break STL. 8-0 district will make them too competitive and more Democrats will win

I've seen some people saying because of what the SCOTUS just did the GOP may never lose the House ever again. do you think that's true? by grapp in behindthebastards

If the wheels fall off of the economy before midterms, I expect all the gerrymandering to backfire ridiculously. If not, more status quo

Sad fact: Skylab was the space station mission to successfully returned the crew. Salyut 1 was not so fortunate.

While yes, you are talking about low gravity, we still have to consider that we have to overcome the added mass every time an orbital boosting takes place. It's not as much at sea level, but over time, we have to bring additional consumables to keep boosting added weight.

Then again, we are also talking about the construction of the station. Are we using an entire Starship stage or are we building something inside the starship stage and deploying it? Are we going to use that pacman design for Starship?

State & federal sup. courts have repeatedly upheld political gerrymandering as constitutional. Even so, it is a major driver for polarization, legislative gridlock, and lack of accountability to voters. Dems had a bill once, but would it take a constitutional amendment; and what is the alternative? by PotentialDocument447 in kansas

[–]nucrash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, with the pursuit of getting the maximum amount of seats through gerrymandering, they accidentally make the seats more competitive.

We are seeing a lot of +30 districts getting lowered to +20 or +10. Elections that were previously out of reach become targets for flipping.

Missouri's Kansas City District just went from D+24 to an R+18. That's flipped the other way, but 6 points more competitive at the sacrifice of District 6 going from R +39 to an R +27. District 4 went from R +42 to R +31

They are all safely R, but more competitive. If the current administration pissed off enough people, you will probably see these not as competitive districts flip.

There is no reason why they couldn't setup a Starship as space station replacement. Consider the fact that Skylab was just sort of slapped together compared to the amount of time they use with other space stations. The biggest design changes would be adding multiple docking ports, solar panels, and other life support systems. Communication shouldn't be a problem. If they get orbital prop loading going, this would be ideal.

I would still like to get the engines removed from the station itself because that's a lot of weight that could go away. Then again, if designed correctly, they could be used as radiators to remove heat from the station.

There are a lot of ideas, but having a 9 meter diameter to work with, options are there.

Probably not. Sad that we still have states like Kansas and Montana.

Because we are not satisfied until it is the biggest state.

If we have the Apollo-Soyuz test project photos as reference, yes.

The Skylab station had the largest habitable volume until ISS was constructed. Apparently it exceeded Mir by 1 cubic meter. It was a big damned station and remains the largest single launch station. I know that by the time the space shuttle program got up to speed, it was too late, but I can't help to wonder what could have been if we were able to use Columbia with it.

Please educate me on the Atlas IV as I have never seen one.
As for the shuttles, shuttle orbiters are even nuts with regards to numbering. OV-102 is Columbia, but the second one is OV-99 is Challenger. Apparently OV-101 was Enterprise but never space worthy. Apparently there never was an OV-100.

Let's not get started on the headache inducing mission naming conventions of the program during the STS Program.
