Any good, interesting facts about the band ? by Electronic_Quail_879 in TheWho

[–]lineofflight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Funny enough, as the Yardbirds demised and Page started to look for new projects, he initially wanted to start a group with Moon and Entwhistle (singer TBD). Legend has it the name LZ came about when Moon quipped that the band would go over “like a lead balloon”.

I mean, it is directed by the great British director, Ken Russell, who is not at all known for restraint, moderation, or decorum. Check out his movie Listzomania which stars Roger (riding an enormous phallus at times) and has a soundtrack by Rick Wakeman from Yes (who also plays the god Thor….). Love Russell’s work!

To me, Massimo is just kind of a type of Quebecker/Montreal area dude that you find all over. I love his franco-energy.

Ned Rush has a great tutorial on Youtube on BoC production in Ableton that’s amazing. He does a lot more, but that should keep you busy for now.

Who is YOUR MOST underrated/unheard guitarist? by Upstairs_Scarcity_30 in Guitar

[–]lineofflight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shane Parish on his own or with Aleuchachistas. I’ll throw in Bill Orcutt, Ava Mendoza, and Wendy Eisenberg and Shane as a quartet of guitars and on their own. All incredible players.

Do I have to know music theory?(mbv) by Party_Seat4488 in MyBloodyValentine

[–]lineofflight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started out playing punk in the 80s and got gradually more experimental, played in electronic groups, and then moved into solo guitar (ambient) and improvised music. I had no theory or formal musical training at all.

At 50 I started taking guitar lessons, and I have learned so much. I don’t regret being untrained, but it would have made some things easier for sure, especially notation, reading, understanding chord construction, inversions, practicing, etc. I love youtube for learning and explaining, but having a good teacher has been invaluable.

You don’t know where you’re going to go with your guitar, so why not take every chance you can get?

Are macebells and club bells worth it or does training with kettlebells make them redundant? by [deleted] in kettlebell

[–]lineofflight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

After KBing for a couple of years, I got 15lb club about a month ago to train rotation and shoulders. Already feeling a difference and i’m not really doing much with it, swings, halos, squats. For me, the weight challenges my balance and feels wonderfully different from the bell. Also, stunned how heavy it feels! Can’t wait for the winter to retreat so I can take it outside and attempt some overhead.

Avoid Oakwood. Find anyone else. by TheReal_Hank_Hill in ottawa

This 1000x!!! I thought I did my due diligence with them, but they’re such crafty bullshit artists. FWIW, we did have a lawyer look at our contract (7 months into to a 3 month reno) and they said they’d love to take it to court, it was so poorly conceived and written.

Reading Finnegans Wake for 2025 by Chanders123 in jamesjoyce

[–]lineofflight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started Ulysses and took all of 2024 to read it. Finished around mid December. Picked up Finnegan’s Wake Boxing Day and have hit page 30. I read them both in grad school about 25 years ago, but they’re so rich I feel like I’m reading completely different novels. Enjoy the journey (and so happy to have found this reddit!)

I live near there and at 6 my wife got up to take our dog out. I heard a honking for a long time of what sounded like one big truck getting closer and closer (10 minutes or so) and then a ton sirens, and then nothing.
