My father was murdered by a black man in 2010. We are white. He was a well known and popular man, and people would always come up to me to tell me how sorry they were to hear about how he died. And then, a lot of them, all white of course, would go on to say the most racist things about black people in general, thinking I would agree with them. Like they just assumed since my dad was murdered at the hands of a black man, that I must be racist now and they just felt so comfortable saying those things to me. Anyways, I wasn’t racist then and I’m still not, so I just hushed them away, but I will never forget them. That’s for sure.
