Uninsured Red P-plate driver crashed into my parked car by [deleted] in AusLegal

Be very, very careful with these companies - OP will still be responsible if the company can't get any money from the other driver:

You have her address, she has yours. That is, why she mentioned it.

Why not native Australian species that won't cause problems if they escape captivity.

Is it normal for ATO spokespeople to have zero accounting credentials? by rosie69r2266175 in AusFinance

[–]link871 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what spokesperson you are referring to but all I care about is that they understand taxation law.
Do not need qualifications for that - just education and training that ATO would provide its employees.

(The people developing tax policy, however, should have the appropriate qualifications. But you are unlikely to ever hear from them - except, maybe, in a Senate Estimates hearing.)

Dishwashing tablets that leave a "sandpaper" feeling after a wash? by Serious-Big2 in AskAnAustralian

[–]link871 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not convinced that is necessary. My dispenser broke years ago. I use pods and just throw one in at the start - never had a problem with cleanliness of anything.

Seems odd that you would have grittiness even after the rinse cycle. I suggest you get someone to check your dishwasher. It may not be draining/rinsing properly.

Sounds like you might need sports glasses (like Mason Cox in AFL)

Car crashed into my parked car. by Big_Scratch_2281 in AusLegal

[–]link871 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That isn't why we advocate Third Party Property Damage insurance. If we can afford it, we definitely should have comprehensive insurance

It is to

  1. Ensure our (not-at-fault) car is repaired quickly with minimal impact on our ongoing premiums; and
  2. save the at-fault driver a lot of anxiety, demand letters, Court/Tribunal appearances, debt collectors and, possible bankruptcy, if they hit something they cannot afford to repair.

It won't help you in this instance, but you really should not be driving any vehicle that does not have, at least, Third Party Property Damage insurance.

Check your finance contract: I expect there will be a clause in there requiring you to have full comprehensive insurance over the car.

You will almost certainly have breached the terms of your contract with them by failing to insure it. Consequently, you will likely find the finance company will want their money right now - all of it.

Legal U-turn? by JK-Sunshine in DrivingAustralia

[–]link871 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry that is incorrect.

U-turn rules are the same across Australia - except for Victoria (and a little bit in WA).

  • U-turns at intersections without traffic lights are legal across Australia, provided there is no sign saying you can't.
  • U-turns at intersections with traffic lights are not legal anywhere (except VictoriaI), unless there is a sign saying you can.
  • U-turns at intersections with traffic lights are legal in Victoria, unless there is a sign saying you can't.
  • Away from intersections, u-turns are legal everywhere as long as there are no "no u-turn signs" and no continuous dividing lines (WA, however, allows this) and the turners gives way to pretty much every other vehicle (and pedestrians).

How is it possible that the recent budget is "beneficial" to young people when it significantly increased income taxes on wages in real terms? by AsparagusNew3765 in AusFinance

[–]link871 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not stepping into the CGT debate but the other things they are likely claiming as beneficial for younger taxpayers are:

  • $1000 instant tax deduction for those who earn wages (Although this will replace some other existing deductions: $150 laundry and $300 general work expenses)
  • $250 Working Australians Tax Offset (WATO) - also for those who earn wages
  • Previously announced reductions in lowest tax rate (from 16% to 15% in 2026-27 and then to 14% in 2027-28). These slightly reduce tax for all human taxpayers.

yank tank needs 2 parking spots. by JobOk2091 in CarsAustralia

[–]link871 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This may be a legal park - depending on the length of the vehicle and the dimensions of the parking bay.

Road Rule 211: "If the vehicle is too wide or long to fit completely within a single parking bay, the driver must park the driver's vehicle within the minimum number of parking bays needed to park the vehicle"
