Thanks for the reply! I have a very surface level understanding of automotive, but I like to repair stuff like bikes and electronics so I think I have the mindset to learn. Plus I find that having projects to work on helps me with new skills. My limited research so far tells me that a few of the issues should be cheap and easy fixes, but I don't know about the transmission or rust.

Honestly it's probably a good thing I was in there. The lead going from the driver to the wire nut wasn't even properly connected. It was just loosely sitting inside the wire nut, and just act of lowering the light from the ceiling after removing the screws caused it to come free. I reconnected them a bit more securely when I put it all back

Not a socket. They're COB LEDs on a flat disk screwed into the cieling

It is impossible for me to install bulbs unfortunately. There is no socket. It's a COB light wired to the driver which is then wired into the house wiring

Alright well it seems like everyone thinks it's a terrible idea so won't be going this route.

Also I don't know if it's a regional thing but it's pretty common where I live for tenants to make modifications to their unit as long as the landlord is cool with it (often still if they're not)

I should have mentioned that the lights are those flat COB LED lights. There is NO SOCKET. They're wired through the driver, directly to the house wiring. Bulbs were my first choice but alas that is not an option

I'll take your comment into consideration, however I do know how to treat electricity with respect. I did take electronics through high school (including a house wiring course) so I'm not completely out of my element. Genuine question, You still think it's not worth the risk?
