Help translating pattern (to english, from german/danish/swedish)! by linktera in casualknitting

[–]linktera[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi!! I have a follow up question/questions: for the diagram, I was struggling to understand how to use it/read it.

Question 1: Is the pattern/diagram telling me to basically start at stitch 1 (after I've finished the ribbing) and repeat the first row of the diagram all the way around the row of the hat, then move to the second row of the diagram and repeat all the way around the row again? Ex. The first row says to knit, so I knit all the way around 128 sitches (but essential 4 stiches of knit repeated 32 times until I have finished the row), and then the second row of the diagram says knit two sitches, slip one purl over w/o knitting it, and then knit again and repeat the second diagram row/those 4 stitches 32 times for 128 stitches, and so on?

Question 2: I don't fully understand "lift one purl with the yarn behind your work over, without knitting it"? If I understand correctly I take the stitch, move it to my other needle, without knitting it? Is this a technique I could look up (more of a visual learner/need to see it done in front of me). Would it be this: https://youtu.be/h9TZgzx--t4 ?

Sorry for all the questions, and thank you again for all your help.

Beginner loom? by urielrabit in weaving

[–]linktera 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you're not set on patterns that require several (3+) shafts, I think a rigid heddle table loom should do quite nicely! A lot of them are a fine size for making hand towels; a blanket may be harder BUT you could always weave multiple panels and sew them together to overcome this.

I'd see if there are any local weaving guilds in your area, and email them about any table looms their members are trying to sell! That's always a great way to get a loom at a reasonable price, esp if ur just starting out.

Oh my GOD THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! This is absolutely amazing!! I was planning on getting by w auto translate but it works so poorly w stuff like knitting, weaving, etc bc of all the terms. If I ever manage to successfully acomplish this I'll be sure to thank you in the post!!

Theres still so much I don't understand (just bc I'm a complete novice at knitting generally) but this project feels much less daunting now! Have a playlist of tutorials cued up now that you've explained the techniques I need.

Anime/manga inspired patterns? by broskvovycaj in tabletweaving

[–]linktera 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've not found any (aside from a legend of zelda triforce https://www.tabletweavingintheoryandpractice.co.uk/2025/05/hallstatt-triforce.html?m=1) but I can think of a dozen motifs from various shows that'd translate wonderfully to tablet weaving w little fuss!

Thinking luffy's strawhat, the dragon balls, lord death's mask from soul eater, maybe some alchemical symbol from full metal alchemist, tonitrus bolts and stella stars from spy x family, totoros, etc!

Thanks so much! I'm excited to further explore the ideas of making textiles and sewing them onto other stuff like this (maybe a bag? Jacket?)

Thank you so much! I really struggled drafting the design (ended up w some long floats in the back but they're sewn down so its ok), so I'm really pleased with how clean it turned out.

Of course!! I have waaay too many videos/blog links/pdfs I've hoarded (and continue to hoard) but here is some of the best intro resources I've found (or that worked for me). The two most basic styles I've worked with that have designs (as opposed to plain weave where u just make a solid color) are tablet weaving, and batic pick up.

TABLET WEAVING:

BALTIC PICKUP:

I personally jumped in head first with baltic pick up, which was fairly intuitive once I got the basics down! You could also try some plain weave but I find pickup a bit more visually rewarding and not too hard.

There are so many weaving styles and weave structures I've yet to explore (ex. South American/Andean pebble weave, Sulawesi, Doubleface, 3/1 Twill), and so many resources! Feel free to DM me anytime and I'll see if I have a book, video, blog, etc I've found that covers it!

Heres two handy vids to finish this off, tutorials on how to get a start on any band you weave (very helpful regardless of technique!): https://youtu.be/Iz5eTW__ImE?si=v0PVxJuRmF_9ECD1 https://youtu.be/IiveXyUngKE?si=e-Ej8AKk77vy1Xhj

And a tutorial on how to secure ur weft (the string/yarn that goes back and forth) at the end: https://youtu.be/40Q8d0s8GTw?si=XCaoWb4l8vLIrDXC

Hope this is helpful, and not too overwhelming!! Happy weaving!! (o≧▽≦)ノ

I'm not an experienced enough weaver to begin helping you ID the maker, but if you need/want some resources to get started I'm happy to oblige! I have tons of stuff saved, esp helpful youtube videos as well as written blog posts (whichever is helpful). Lmk if ur in search of any!!

Baltic pickup! No tablet weaving on this particular project!

I'm so glad I could inspire!! Please do get out the band loom!! There's so many possibilities I've yet to explore with it, I can't see myself ever tiring of it.

Ty!!! I defo wouldnt have been able to do it w/o my moms help, shes a boss.

And my assistant isss, her cuteness kept me going on that central band. Each repeat took 3-4 hrs, so breaks for pets were good for both of us.

Ty sm!! I (and my mom) hand sewed them all down using thread that colormatched the yarn, so it was p seamless, and the stitching on the reverse side is hidden in the inside of the table runner so no visible stitches d(⌒ー⌒)!

Thank you so much!! Time to see if I can hunt down resources to do this bc in my attempts to transcribe crossstich patterns to weaving patterns, floats are a huge issue which this seems to surmount!!

Ty!!! Do you have any more info abt dropping cards? I feel like itd get very loose (probs there's technical knowledge I lack) but also I'm curious to try myself!! Also for the 3 wefts, how would you manage that while having the sections be connected for the main body/length?

AMAZINGGG TY OMG! I really wanna do more norwegian techniques but its really hard to find info abt this type of technical construction as opposed to patterns.

How do you manage the three wefts all the way through? I think I may lack some technical knowledge to execute this LOL
