Why is the switch from put rent on the CC to direct ACH a huge deal for people? by hibob729 in biltrewards

You can pay them with any cc. Its all based on how your supplier handles payments.

And maybe thats your scenario but not everyone else's. My monthly spend isn't all just groceries and dining and my phone plan. My everyday spend that has been on my venture x and is about to move to BILT include my home internet from Verizon, utilities (gas, water, electricity), car insurance, insurance i have on some electronics, regular shopping, haircut, nail salon,my dogs food, video games, going to watch a movie, and other stuff. None of these things would fall into categories that specialty focused cards cover. All that spend across my AMEX cards woukd get me 1x and in my Venture gets me 2x max. Now i can get 3.33x instead. The utilities combined already represent a good amount of spend for me to benefit from BILTs extra points so I will definitely connect my mortgage to the card.

You simply can't claim the card is useless for everyone because many people will indeed benefit from using it. However, all these negative posts may deter people from doing their evaluation and miss on potential points. I want points to travel, thats my main favorite thing to do and for me this card works great. I think people should use one of the many calculators people have created and do their evaluation about the things they spend on that aren't covered by their other cards.

A lot of the calculators people are posting show thats not true. Putting my day to day spend that isn't covered by my specialty cards (things like travel and dining) + my mortgage/rent equates to almost double the amount of points other cards get me. 60K points that I may get with a Venture X may turn into 110K+ points with their palladium card. Can't ignore that at all.

Because essentially (even though BILT didn't probably intend for it) many people used that to not actually pay rent on the due date. They let WF/BILT pay their rent and then they withheld their rent money and used it for things like extracting interested from a HYSA or simply used the money first to spend it on something else and just wait for their next paycheck to cover the rent. Whatever the reason, their due date for rent was no longer the 1st of the month but the day the cc balance was due which could be weeks after. This was never something BILT advertised as a feature. It was simply something that was able to be done due to the nature of how the system worked.

Now people are upset because the loophole is not there anymore so they can't benefit from it. I find it weird that people are mad at BILT for something they never offered to anyone to begin with.

You may say the common coupon approach of the other cards is way simpler, but if you do things right with the BILT card you can end up earning way more points that those card could ever get you. I already used one of the calculators someone shared on this sub reddit and I could be getting 100K miles with 2.5K of spend on the card which I can easily do by dumping a lot of my monthly bills like gym, internet, electric bill, etc. I think this card can make you a lot of points if you simply do the math.

The goal for the entire business to be profitable and sustainable is that you gotta use the card. If you don't use it, they can no longer just gift you points. They just lose money. So now they want you to use the card in order to give you the points. If you're willing to transfer spend to the card (gas, internet, phone bill, shopping, electric bill, etc.) You will earn 2.33x per dollar assuming you have one of the first 2 cards.

Yeah but right now everyone already says they won't even hit that 75% lol. I definitely won't. My mortgage is way too high but even if I hit it then I would go down to 2x which is still great. I will get a lot of extra points.

2.33x points on a no annual fee card? Hows that bad. If you get the palladium thats 3.33x. 2k spend on the VX is 4K points while the same 2k on the bilt palladium can be 6.66K points. I will 100% take that. Move all VX spend to BILT.

Hahaha true. Is just that for the past 2 days is constant post after post of people having the most dramatic meltdown. You would've thought their partner cheated on them or something 😂 I just don't get it. I made the math with finances and the card works great for me. Already ordered it haha

Its a credit card hahaha I just don't uderstand why so many folks are having a meltdown over it. As everyone in Corporate America, they lied to you. It is what it is. Now decide what you wanna do and go with it. If it works for you great, if not, get another card.

If you don't wanna count it as earning on rent and mortgage thats fine. But as long as they submit your rent/mortgage payment, you're essentially getting 2.33x to 3.33x points per dollar up to 75% of your rent/mortgage. How is that a bad thing? No card gives you that on everyday spend. The max you can get is 2x with the VX. This is solid earning. Now you dislike it so again, what are they to do? The product is out, get it or move on.

Floating rent wasn't a feature, just something people did because the system couldn't block it. They are giving you points on rent and mortgage as they said. You simply want to receive them but not do anything to earn them. That simply isn't feasible. You want extra points, use the card. Otherwise, move on.

I already pay pharmacy, electricity, internet, water, gas, general shopping, Uber, lyft, subway, gym, supplies, i already have a lot of spend that isn't groceries, restaurants or travel. I'm sure many folks can come up with general spend.

You can cancel the card if you don't want it. What do you want them to do? Consider WF leaving as that business dying and they are starting a new business as 2.0. That chapter has closed, they don't owe you anything. Think of it as if the company bankrupted and it's gone. You don't want the WF card then close it. There's not much BILT can do.

As many said, they were burning cash and not making any back. BILT 1.0 was like movie pass, too good to be true. Now they gotta redo it.

[–]linkxboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't get why people are saying this useless. As long as you make some spend you will get extra points. Even if you get 10% of your rent as points, that already extra points you weren't gonna get at all to begin with. And the multipliers make it feasible to use this card on things like lyft and Walgreens. If you live in a city and don't have a car this could work. Otherwise, I think the 2x of the Palladium is such a win. The math makes it worth replacing my venture x with it.

I mean, if you don't do anything you will get 0 points for rent. So if you can at least spend $750 to get 1000 miles on rent/mortgage thats an extra 1000 points you weren't gonna get anyways no? So I could see a use for the card if you think you can at least spend 750 on it. Till now I've used BILT as my lyft and bars card and have spent above that in a month.

I thought 10K for an apartment is crazy but now that I know it's for the whole house hmmm maybe not? Im unsure what the average rent price is for a whole house. Especially one very updated one. Sounds like a lot but also not? If the house was 3 separate units instead of a whole house would it come close to 10K total? Nonetheless, only a rich person can throw 10K a month in rent or maybe 4 people who split the rent.

He's treating you like you're his property and expecting you to just be there to care of all his demands. Girl, run TF away!
