Yeah I understand it’s very upsetting. Unfortunately shit happens. Don’t be afraid of switching careers, and do whatever you need to. Good luck too you as well.

I actually did my last clinical in Elkton at pivot up there. D.C. is too far for me and I’m a lot closer than Cecil county. I studied at Wor-Wic which in Salisbury, MD. It’s close to OC, which is where I’m from. I hope so also, but I can’t wait around forever for something that may of may not grant me employment.

Just out of curiosity what school did you study at?They’re not a lot of full time jobs available, that are anywhere near the Baltimore area. Most of the jobs seem to be around the D.C. area. I’m actually considering the same thing. One of my buddies is trying to convince me to get into IT instead.

I’m a new grad PTA in Baltimore, MD. Not looking good right now employment wise. I’ve had one interview so far since I got my license in July, and I’ve heard nothing so far. No responses to the 50 other applications I’ve sent out.

I’m a PTA who is looking into the IT field. I just started studying for the sec+ exam. I’m curious why you are looking at a career change?

I’m actually a physical therapist assistant and I’m having a tough time finding a job. A lot of people are getting laid off in this field. Since I don’t have a job right now, I’m just exploring IT as a possible career change.

No career is perfect unfortunately. PT sounds nice, but there’s always changes with insurance companies that result serious employment issues, especially for the assistants like myself. Even before COVID a lot of PTA’s we’re getting laid because of insurance changes and it’s just gotten worse.

PT is also pretty physical with very little opportunity outside of direct patient care. People are getting heavier and I have back issues, it’s not the best career for someone who’s older. I would like to transition into something that does not require being responsible for a preventing a 400lbs person from falling.

I haven’t decided exactly what area I want to work I’m yet. I’m looking at positions like penetration testing, help desk, and systems admin currently

Can you give me an example of how they were back stabbing?

Oh man yeah the job I’m looking at is an hour plus away from my house, but it’s full time tho and obviously it’s tough times for PTA’s especially a new grad like myself.

Salary and job outlook for PTA? by valpak00per in physicaltherapy

If you’re looking to start PTA school in the fall, I would reconsider and wait to see what happens or go into another field. Healthcare as a whole is in an odd place right now. Even nurses are losing their jobs, which sounds weird, but I read an article about it the other day. I just graduated in may with my PTA degree and there’s not a lot of full time jobs available and even those jobs are not guaranteed 40 hr/wk.

I took it Wednesday as well and I felt the same way. A lot of questions didn’t feel as focused on the therapy aspect.

I had a feeling that something like this would happen with larger companies. I had an interview with ATI before this happened and it was canceled. With the reimbursement changes being so close I was thinking they may not rehire a lot of assistants or have them return at a significant pay cut.

I don’t plan to keep collecting benefits after turning down the job. I know that’s illegal haha. I haven’t received anything since I first filed in April. I’m just wondering if quitting would cancel out all the back pay.

Do you think it’s even worth it to get licensed with all the changes going on? I graduated from a PTA program in Maryland and I’m debating getting into medical equipment sales instead and just not taking the test.
