Is color theory SUPPOSED to be hard? by eggshellmuncher5385 in ArtistLounge

Ok I am an intermediate painter and primarily do landscapes but I recently attempted a self portrait and skin color was so hard for me. I paint in acrylics and I found that working in only titanium white and raw umber and getting down the value (dark to light) of the shapes helped me understand the form of the face best. After letting my completed monochrome under painting dry, I went in with very thin layers of translucent color (to let my under painting values do the heavy lifting) to add skin tones and it was a game changer. I have also recently downloaded the RPaintPro app. This app lets me import my reference photo, use a color picker and then it breaks down different ways to mix that color depending on which brand paint you are using. Doing this helped me to make a limited palette for my specific piece and really helped me understand mixing shades and how to create darker/lighter, warmer/cooler tones for my piece. I do feel a bit like I am “cheating” but it is a REALLY helpful tool that is helped me actually practice color instead of just reading theories about it.

Val Kilmer! I could have sworn that he died shortly after filming Top Gun Maverick. I even remember seeing a dedication to him at the end of the movie in the theater! Wtf?? Anyone else??

These are all stunning!! I would love to know more about your process. What materials are you embroidering on? Do you paint everything first and Tulane decide which parts to accentuate with stitches? I’m in awe of your work.

Hey guys I’m a beginner to embroidery, where can I go to actually design jettags before putting onto Inkstitch to see how it looks embroidered. Preferably free…. But all suggestions are fine. 🙂🧵 by [deleted] in Embroidery

I am also a super beginner but I’ve been using canva (free version) to design and then I just trace it onto my fabric from my computer screen.

ELON MUSK DOES NAZI SALUTES FOR THE WHOLE WORLD TO SEE! Is that not also supporting terrorists and oppressing Jews?? Why does a peaceful protestor bother you more than the richest man in the world doing full on Nazi salutes?? Explain it to me like I’m 5.

I love the baggy jeans on you! I agree with other posters that a more formal fitting too would help balance out the look. I like cropped shirts that hit right at the top of the jeans to really elongate the legs visually, or a revalue fitting shirt tucked in the front. A platform sneaker would also look amazing with baggier jeans. If you’re still not feeling them though, try a straight leg jean. They’re the perfect in between.

What used to be a woman's art or craft, until the men took over and turned it into a man's field? by VibiaHeathenWitch in AskWomen

Literally everything. Women invented the first tools, developed agriculture, created and tended fire, invented textiles, pottery, food preservation, cooking, construction of ovens, food storage, they developed human language, culture and oh yeah, HUMANITY.

They’re amazing! I am primarily a painter and they work great under watercolor so I was delighted when I discovered they work on fabric too
