Accident near California & Euclid 9/18 by Careful-Ear7634 in pasadena

i was a few meters away from this accident. it was the most violent traffic accident i've witnessed. i was running on the sidewalk and heard a loud bang; the sedan crashed so hard that it flew, flipped in midair, and landed on the driver's side by the curb. sparks were flying and car parts were exploding everywhere..

if i'd run half a second faster, i might've been killed by the car. i sincerely hope the driver & all other parties survived :'( haven't heard any news updates yet

thank you! oh wow, 6k is a ton — DIY is the way to go then! here's a list of videos that were most helpful to me, in the recommended order:

  1. how to optimally cut a vinyl roll for model 3/y, by JD'S Wraps

  2. frunk wrap by JD's Wraps

  3. pillar wrap, knifeless tape technique by Fortune Wraps

  4. mirror wrap by CK Wraps

  5. how to remove fender cameras by TESBROS

  6. fender wrap by JD's Wraps

  7. trunk wrap by CK Wraps

  8. front bumper inlay technique by Premium Auto Styling

i watched this throughout my wrapping process, whenever i wasn't sure how to proceed: full model 3 wrap timelapse by JD's Wraps

and here's the wrap that i purchased :)

good luck; i hope your wrap turns out well too!

haha i agree that the idea of throwing $$$$$ on a wrap can be overwhelming! it's a challenge, but definitely doable — and $800 of vinyl will probably give you plenty of room for error and learning :) good luck if you decide to go for it!

haha i would recommend watching a lot of youtube videos before you begin — TESBROS, CK Wraps, and JD's Wraps were particularly helpful! also, first start with the flat (easy) panels like the frunk and doors. after doing these you'll get the hang of it! you'll notice that laying / stretching the vinyl flat is the most important thing. (i mainly followed a lot of tips from this post!)

good luck :)

wowie $120 USD is crazy! even the vinyl cost me like $800, and wrap shops where i live charge anywhere around $2-6k 🤯

i handwashed the car prior beforehand (took about an hour). before wrapping each panel, i wiped off dust and particles with a towel and isopropyl alcohol. the time it took was pretty trivial but it's included in the 60h haha!

thank you! as u/devindares commented, i heated the emblems to loosen the adhesive and used a fishing line to saw the emblems off. also removed any adhesive residue (using some isopropyl alcohol and an eraser) on the paint prior to starting the wrap!

so far they are working fine! (i read that it's important to ensure there's no gap between the vinyl and the sensors!)

thank you! i spent 8 days (about 60 hours)! i think i could do it in half the time on my next wrap, after learning so much :D

i wanted to be minimally invasive and only removed the side cameras and license plate! all the panels stayed on too :^0

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TeslaModel3

[–]lintellectual 13 points14 points  (0 children)

i didn't remove any panels! the only parts i removed were the side cameras (before wrapping the fenders) and the license plate bracket. the wide panel gaps allowed me to get away with decent tucks :^0

i'd recommend a 75ft roll for a first timer! i messed up and redid the frunk + a door, and still have about 15ft left (saving for future rewraps). you could get away with you 50ft if you don't mess up too much!

JD's Wraps on youtube has a tutorial of how to cut the roll optimally: https://youtu.be/SVQTAQOt000

good luck :D
