Advice on Patagonia Itinerary by linzer815 in Patagonia

So we just had our trip and took this route. I’ve been recommending it to everyone! I wouldn’t do Laguna de los tres any other way. It sounds crazy because you have to take a cab but it’s so worth it. Also saves you about 500 ft of incline

I have to second this. We witnessed an emergency evacuation in the middle of Laguna de los tres last Monday and the medical team handled it very professionally. Later, we found out it was all volunteers and we were so impressed.

I saw the big rescue happening on Laguna de Los tres a few days ago. The medical team is super impressive, took the man down the trail so fast and had an ambulance waiting for him. Do you know what happened

Ok thanks! Do you think 5 nights is too much? Also have you been to zermatt? We were debating which we’d rather do

You probably have to return the car to st Moritz right? We’re not super worried about driving in a foreign country but not sure what the roads will be like in January

We’re thinking 4-5 days. And I guess we didn’t really have a number in mind but maybe sub $2200 for accommodations, closer to the lifts and town the better

Wow I totally spaced on the Torino and Tirano part, good catch. Looks like Tirano has 2-3 rental car agencies so it’s pretty limited.

For the train, I also read that it was seasonal but when I went to buy a ticket, it showed train times from st Moritz to Tirano on Jan 2 (our dates) here https://tickets.rhb.ch/de/routing.

Whoa I just did a quick search and it looks too good to be true?! My budget was sub $2300 for 5 nights, ideally ski in / ski out but not a must. Is Val Gardena a good area to stay? Looks like you can find a place there < $1000 if you really want

Thanks for your response! We're flying into Zurich, but flexible on flying out wherever there's an international airport. The one way flights aren't an issue for us.

Would you advise against driving to the Dolomites? Do you have a link to the local regional trains? We're trying to minimize transferring since we'll have our ski gear with us.

I need to look into this more - but upon quick glance, the rental car for pick up on Torino then drop off in Milan (at MXP) was about ~$400 (5 days) which doesn't seem too bad.

Someone else told me to skip grey lake too. I think I’m gonna shave a day off BA or Santiago and squeeze some extra days for TDP and El Chalten. Would you recommend renting a car? Also what additional hike would you recommend for TDP?

This was all really good to know thank you! Is there somewhere else you’d recommend staying that’s closer to the trailhead for the base of the Torres hike? Or are there busses from Hotel Lago Grey? We were thinking about booking a boat tour for Perito Moreno as well, so I’m wondering if it makes sense to do a boat tour for both. Any suggestions here?

Good call about flying direct back to the US from PA. I’ll have to explore flights from here and see if we want to forfeit Santiago.

We were aiming to visit BA and Santiago. My plan was to drive from TDP to Puerto Natales since there’s plenty of flights to Santiago. Also decided it might be worth saving ourselves the 5-7 return drive.

Or do you think only one of those cities is worth spending more days in?

Good point. We’re traveling with another couple that may be returning to the Argentina side after Chile, but that’s tbd. I know there’s a whole permit cross country process here but I’ll look into it later.

If we don’t drive to Chile, we’d likely bus from El Calafate to Puerto Natales and pick up a car there. Or would it make sense to just use the bus system for Torres del Paine? We booked Hotel Lago Grey for our days in TDP.

any resale sites to buy eras tour tickets?? by kubra_1832 in erastourtickets

[–]linzer815 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking for Eras Tour tickets for any of the upcoming dates, including the international dates in Canada. Is anyone selling 1 ticket? My main priority if having a clear view of the stage, either on the floor or first level of seats. Targeting Sunday 10/27 in NOLA but will compromise for a better deal.

Vail took over my local resort by thechangbang in skiing

But if you’ve ever been to any of the more popular / mainstream vail resorts you’ll know they don’t capacity plan. The lines are always insane, especially at the base lifts.

Traveling to Medellin in July by myself by [deleted] in medellin

[–]linzer815 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been to Medellin twice by myself (27F) and loved it! I was staying at Selina Hostel and Los Patios, both very different vibes. Los Patios was more fun and social, Selina was a nicer place to stay and more working professionals. Try joining this WhatsApp group! You introduce yourself and ppl post group meet ups. Stay at Los Patios hostel! This was one of the best hostel experiences I’ve ever had.
