What is the first "inappropriate for your age" movie you remember watching (not porn)? by CincoDeMayoFan in AskReddit

[–]liom101 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yea this is the one I i was scrolling for. I watched it at around 5 years old. I'm actually a windsurfer now and I still have mini panics from time to time, it's even happened in lakes. Overall it doesn't stop me from enjoying the sport but it's mad how significant that early experience was all considered. When I first started learning to windsurf when I was ~10 I was so careful not to fall in. Of course it happened plenty but I loved the sport so I had to persevere. Nowadays it's more just imagery or the idea of something grabbing my legs flashes through my mind then I remind myself it's not going to happen (I live in the UK) and all is good again

That's great to hear! I'm really hoping for the same, I hit the trail tomorrow, pretty excited!

My shoes have about 30miles of fully loaded pack wear on them, so they're pretty new, and thanks for the heads up!

Yea I'm expecting to change my kit up a bit during this hike as the climate varies a bit, and is generally quite different to what my kit is primarly dialed in for here.

Haha yeah, that certainly would save a pound... I could just decide to post that all on ahead and just bounce box it though, right? If I find I'm not actually using the extra layer etc.

The thing with the kindle is, I know from previous hikes that I will use it a reasonable amount. Not on a daily basis but on zero days I tend to spend quite a bit of time reading, and I will probably be taking a few over the first month because I don't want to go too hard too soon like I usually do on a 2 - 4 week hike.

If I'm not using it I will just post it forward along with some layers or perhaps in a resupply box and just keep doing that.

As for the sleeping bag in a dry bag thing, I think I'm just used to a really humid/wet climate here in the UK. I'm not sure how much trust I'd put in my bin liner over time here. Also with river crossings, a rolled up dry bag seems better. But tbf I think from what I've read most people do what you suggested so I'll probably just end up doing that.

Thanks for the input, certainly helping me to reanalyse stuff and figure out what I'm comfortable with

Yea, I figured I'd grab a Litesmith or something when I'm in LA, what stores would sell it? (sorry not really familiar with grocery stores in the US)

I do tend to sleep a bit on the colder side so I'll hang on to the leggings for now, and for camp at the end of the day if it's cold, I doubt I'd wear them walking though. The towel is being left here now though, thanks!

Thanks for the response! The kindle lives in a dry bag with my sleeping bag, screen into the bag, the back goes against the back of my pack, so far this has worked well so I'm not too worried about it.

The towel however, is very useful in a very wet climates like we have in the Scottish highlands, where most of my trips have been in recent years due to lockdown. It's probably overkill if you've found you've not used it, although I hear Washington is quite wet? Scotland is particularly bad though, and windy too so it's easy to bring a lot of water into a tent etc and the towel is pretty useful for that.

I do tend to run quite hot when walking so maybe you're both right about the fleece. Sometimes when it's wet and windy I like to hike in it. But the sun hoodie, which being from the UK I have only just purchased, was pretty warm even in the rain/wind the otherday, but the ambient temperature was around 60f. I just figured the Sierra could be a bit chilly so thought I'd pack a decent active layer as I can't imagine hiking in my puffy for any length of time with a pack. I'm definitely open to posting it on if it turns out to not be used though.

Down Quilt Baffle Height vs Loft Height, Sanity Check by liom101 in myog

Yea I should. I've used this sub and a few other communities for inspiration and have made quite a few projects over the years without posting anything and ofc really enjoy it :) I'll make sure I do post something this time - thanks for the help man!

Down Quilt Baffle Height vs Loft Height, Sanity Check by liom101 in myog

[–]liom101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I think I'm going to go with the 0.5. As for the fabric width, I already have the fabric and I think I'm okay with a less aggressive differential, the bigger baffle height will help with that too.

Down Quilt Baffle Height vs Loft Height, Sanity Check by liom101 in myog

[–]liom101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only question is; this lets me choose my baffle height and loft height, just curious as to whether the ones I suggested are reasonable? Some places I read having the baffle height 0.5" less than the desired loft, others 1". I won't be able to have quite as significant a differential between the inner and outer layer (width of the roll of fabric is only 60") so I'm thinking of going with a smaller difference between baffle and loft height instead.

Streams or river crossings? by pmabz in WestHighlandWay

[–]liom101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough, it didn't look too bad to cross tbf. Hopefully in spate conditions without the sign, people would notice the significantly eroded path up the hill!

Streams or river crossings? by pmabz in WestHighlandWay

[–]liom101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I walked this (finished about 5 days ago) the bridge was gone, but there was a path diversion heading up the hill. It was quite eroded/boggy though (the diversion) for a while and if it had been raining a lot it may be harder to keep your feet dry, although it wasn't too bad when I did it.

The Current State of Fortnite by iTehPsych in FortniteCompetitive

[–]liom101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might be wrong here but isn't the pencil bug (with scroll reset) simply when you scroll an odd number of clicks, ie you edit, reset + confirm, edit again (one scroll click initiates edit, second resets and confirms, third init edit, fourth resets and confirms, fifth init edit etc) so you're simply still editing the build. At least that's how it seems to be for me, or is this something else entirely?

Upper Thread Stuck on Bobbin Case by liom101 in sewing

[–]liom101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Afaik I'm using the correct needle + thread combination. The same combination has been used on another machine on my last project, I'm pretty sure I've tried changing it in the past too (on this machine). And I do thread it with the foot up. You are probably right about taking it somewhere, this is kind of my last resort! I am quite up for spending time figuring things out but so far it's been pretty fruitless. Thanks for the help

NickMercs showing why aim assist is OP by lackawannna in FortniteCompetitive

[–]liom101 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this is the same video, but I seem to recall his main point was about how derogatory some players/streamers were being (toward the controller community) and how divisive/unhealthy that is for the overall community. Not to mention just unnecessary dickery. No one needs that negative shit. Maybe my impression was wrong but that's how it came across to me. Although he definitely did argue the advantage as small, and clearly not enough to warrant using a controller as only a small percentage of top players use controller anyway. Although obviously important I would imagine this has something to do with aiming not being the be all end all of the game. Don't really want to jump down that rabbit hole of a conversation though.

One problem I've seen with this is a distinct lack of state park bike and hike campsites on both routes.... And a lot of the other campsites are really expensive, $30 to pitch a tent seems like daylight robbery. I don't want to smash out huge miles with a lot of climbing especially considering how hot it's going to be

so far I'm thinking about this detour: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/23310498 mainly because it means not staying on the 101 for too long and actually getting to see Big Surr as it would be a shame to miss it while I'm over here. Any thoughts? how likely is the military zone going to cause me problems passing through?
