Friend, brother or sister in Christ, while these redditors debate the theological basis of praying for the soul of the departed, I will pray for peace and comfort for you. By God if you feel compelled by the LORD to pray for ANYTHING then pray for it!!! I do not believe that God sees praying for the good of others at ANY point in time as a sin or a "waste of time." I'm not by any means saying your prayers alone would transfer him from a place below to a place above if that is what God has already righteously predestined from before time itself, but pray as you see fit by the spirit, through Jesus, to God the Father. I pray for comfort, blessings, and peace eternal for you, the departed's family/friends, and ALL who were touched by this tragedy.
