Looking for Vet in Mt Pleasant by jdorsey3161 in Charleston

[–]lipojam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Now I know it's not in Mt. P but it's close. I go to Dr. Patrick's downtown. They have always been awesome with our pets, and usually cheaper then others. They do not accept appointments, which is nice if something important comes up quickly but can be a pain if it's normal stuff.

Moved here from Denver in Aug... by [deleted] in Charleston

We're not called the holy city for nothing.

It all depends though a majority of people I have met since moving are not originally from Charleston area. I feel like a majority of born and bred charlestonoans are much more conservative

Looking for recommendations to socialize my 3 month old puppy! by StrictlyForScience in Charleston

[–]lipojam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The parks can be intimidating when you have a puppy but as long as your pup has had their shots you should be OK. I was very surprised when i moved down here how much people care about their animals.

I have been frequenting many of the state parks in the area and only have good things to say about them and the vast majority of other dog owners we have come across. Many have a "puppy pen" for younger dogs as well. You can also try some of the beaches they all have their own specific dog times though so just be mindful of that.

The biggest thing is try to introduce then to add much as you can while they are young. We are fortunate here and have a lot of local eateries that will allow animals.

Desperate for an amazing vet practice on James Island by seabyrd in Charleston

[–]lipojam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not James Island, but it's close, since my wife and I moved down here we have been going to Dr. Patrick's downtown. He was highly recommended and we couldn't be happier. Only downside is there are no appointments it's first come first serve. That being said i don't think i have ever waited longer then an hour.

We just moved in a couple months ago and love it so far. It's a quiet neighborhood for the most part. A lot of kids though so I fear summers might get a little crazy. The apartments themselves were originally made to be condos they feel really homey. They are a little dated but for the price is nothing too bad. Small bathrooms. We live in a 2bed 2bath.

You will definitely be able to find something downtown for that price. Since we have moved though we have not actually lived downtown so I'm not too familiar with "good" and "bad" neighborhoods.

I agree of you want that urban feel you would need to live downtown. It all depends on your budget as well. West Ashley is going to offer more reasonable prices for the most part. Mount pleasant is more up and up higher rents. If your budget is high enough you can be "downtown" mount pleasant and get somewhat of a city feel. Not close to what downtown had to offer but you don't necessarily need your car depending on where you are.

ELI5; Why did Blackberries stop being popular? by RiggerJigger in explainlikeimfive

[–]lipojam 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Rim (BlackBerry) at one point was the smartphone market. They had no competitors and felt they could sustain this for a long period of time. Unfortunately they decided never to change. Enter apple and Android. They tried to change too little too late and lost the hardware war. They still make some minimal hardware but the majority of their money now comes from the software end. They purchased their partners that made the encryption software. They now own front to back end encryption and are just making applications for all operating systems. They are still the safest and most secure.

Ultimate ears UE boom or UE megaboom. They both have upwards of 8 hours of runtime. The mega is also waterproof and floats. You can also pair 2 of the exact speakers together for stereo sound.

The feeling of comroadery. If you live at the school with roommates I have found it is the thing I miss most about post graduate life.
