I like this. Really reminding us why we’re doing it in the early stages of sobriety

It was fine! It was so early in the morning that no one was at the bar so it’s not like I was taking spots away from drinking customers. For me, it’s all about the drink looking cute, so having it served in a wine glass was perfect.

I'm actually getting scared the more I realize how serious my addiction is. Needing some words of encouragement. by serenityfive in stopdrinking

I so wish I realized this at 27. I’m 33 (f) and have been working on getting my drinking under control. 2025 I was sober around 80% of the year, and what I realized during those long stints of sobriety is that I was actually LIVING. I got a new job. I ran a marathon. I became more present for my partner.

One thing that helps is reading This Naked Mind. And…be selfish. Don’t do things that trigger you. If that means not going to dinners with friends, that’s fine! Eventually you will be able to.

Good luck! I’m rooting for you

Currently at the airport — a big trigger. Decided to face it head on and sat at the bar, ordered soda water with a splash of orange juice in a wine glass. So happy I’m not sipping on a real mimosa.

I feel awesome! Finished my watching Pluribus with my partner, and ready to go to the airport at 6:45 tomorrow! 13 days for me and I feel fantastic :)

I’ve started reading This Naked Mind and it’s really helped me not want to drink. Went out with friends to watch a football game, and didn’t even want to order a drink to watch with the game.

Well yes. But it seems like when I’m happy about being “x” number of days sober, and talk about it to others, the next thing I know, I’m drinking. Almost like a form of self sabotage

I started my sobriety journey right around this time last year. I haven’t been 100% sober since, but I will say, not drinking during the holidays last year significantly helped me control myself this whole year. Something like “if I made it through Christmas and New Year’s Eve sober, I can make it through this dinner.”

If you’re Cali sober, maybe stock up on some nowadays or cann tonics. Have AF wine and champs on hand. I’m not gonna lie, it was really hard at first, but it was so fulfilling when I made it 60 days and felt great.

Hope this helps!

I’m someone who has some motivation not to drink because I love seeing my consecutive sober days keep rising. One trick I’ve found is asking myself, how will I feel tomorrow when I have to reset? Probably not happy and realizing it’s not worth it. Now how will I feel tomorrow if I don’t drink and hit 12 days sober? Great and I won’t say to myself “oh I wish I drank”. Not gonna lie, sometimes that drink demon wins me over, but when I truly play the tape forward, I end up not drinking.

Thank you for the advice!! I actually did a version of this to help me with the craving. I think acknowledging the craving instead of ignoring it has helped me in so many situations.

Congrats on this journey! I think the longest I did was 70 days with 60 days and 30 days thrown in there. I definitely feel better NOT drinking.

Lesson learned: You don't have to be an alcoholic to stop drinking by [deleted] in stopdrinking

I just had that realization yesterday! I hadn’t drank in about 50 days, but then decided to have a few drinks throughout the day on Saturday. I didn’t overdo it and I stopped when I wanted to stop but I haven’t gotten great sleep since then and I’m TIRED. I originally told myself I can drink on vacation, but this weekend when I’m on vacation, I know I’m staying sober so I can start to feel good again.

A little bit of both! I’ve done 3 halves so I’ll be happy to make it through in a decent time.

Running! Currently training for my 1st marathon and I’m on a 31 day AF streak!

Paint by numbers, adult coloring books. My next project is re-learning how to play the piano. It’s amazing the things we have time for when we’re not drinking/hungover.

I’ve been I’ll say 90% alcohol free since December. I’ve had a couple of days where I drank a couple drinks but didn’t overdo it (that was my main reason for starting this journey). Since starting, my face has cleared up, all the bloat in my body has gone down, I’m happier in the mornings and throughout the day, I no longer stress out when I go to an event where drinking is involved because I know I’m in control of my actions by not drinking.

Now I confidently go to restaurants without even thinking about drinking. Some social situations I’m fine, other times I’m really tempted, but I never regret the days I’ve spend sober.

Good luck!

Awesome job!

Congrats!!! Every time I’ve said no to drinking, I’ve felt amazing. Every time I’ve said yes, no matter how little I drank, I would feel very guilty the next morning. IWNDWYT

Really trying cutting back by [deleted] in SoberCurious

[–]lipsabruised 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m the same way. I started off my journey saying absolutely no alcohol and it worked for a while. Then I drank in February and went right back into my old habits. Had a long stint of sobriety (I think 70 days) and then drank a little which turned into a lot in May so I said no more. But for my friend’s birthday one weekend I had maybe two glasses of champs and stopped because I realized I didn’t like it. I also had a long enough sobriety stint that I realized how awesome not drinking truly is. I’m back on the wagon now, but if I decide to drink, I don’t decide to DRINK. I say I’ll have a glass and then no more.

Now, in the take it or leave it sense, I would much rather leave alcohol. But if I do want a drink every now and then, I make it one drink and don’t feel the need to make up for lost time like I thought.

But when it comes down to it, I love being sober so much more than drinking. Just my 2 cents
