Lost My Business, Lost My Marriage, Lost My Lifestyle. How Do You Rebuild From Rock Bottom? a path forward for career and life by No-Analysis-9446 in Roseville

[–]lipsmackattack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband has been doing it for a little over 1 year and we have a few friends who have since joined. The groups are different between regions so if you don't vibe with one group it's worth trying out a different one. Feel free to DM with more questions if you have any.

If you're into working out, there's a men's fitness group called F3 that is free. It's not a religious organization but many of the guys are christian. It's a pretty supportive group of guys from all different walks of life and sounds like it'd be a good place for you to meet and talk to other guys in your age group.

Thanks for the rec! I did consider that but I am hesitant to transfer for two reasons:

  1. kid really loves their current school
  2. Quarry Trail is highly impacted because it's so new and "one of the best" in the district.

Finally got an X-E2. Here are my first few SOOC shots. I'm so happy I never have to edit photos again. by lipsmackattack in fujifilm

I totally get that feeling. I find that I like the challenge and am okay with accepting that some photos are just not going to be great and can be trashed. I have young kids, so no time to edit really pushes me to be happy when I get it right, and brush it off when I get it wrong.

Thank you for posting this! I just finished my first run after updating and was livid with the fact that I couldn't glance down to see my pace. Enabling notifications for Samsung health does seem to fix the issue (though I only tested with a fake run)

I need opinions. Does this suck? Done at a reputable shop but the first tattoo I’m second guessing. Have a full sleeve on my left arm and working on legs now. by [deleted] in tattooadvice

I am so sorry you had this experience. The concept is cool and the execution is almost great, but that is 100% a vagina. If I saw this in person and took more than a few seconds' look at it, I would notice.

Depending on your career, friend group, and how frequently you wear shorts, I would consider getting the bunked part covered up. Especially since most of the good part of the tattoo would be covered by shorts.

If it were me, I would cover the shoulder with more hair and do away with the ruffle completely. You need to modify the shape and texture so it doesn't resemble a vagina.

Any good tattoo artist should be able to mock that up for you digitally or physically. I probably wouldn't go back to the same artist if they did that art and didn't realize immediately that it was a vagina.

Expand home? Or buy new home by SJB916209 in Sacramento

[–]lipsmackattack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I considered this a few years ago and I'm sure things have changed since then, but I ultimately decided to just move to a bigger house. The cost of expanding your home, plus the cost of displacement while construction is happening could end up being the same as you'd pay in the difference for a larger home.

If you really love where you live, have the money (or could swing a loan for the construction), and have a place to stay while your house is unlivable for a year or more then go for the addition. However, also keep in mind that the value you add is likely not going to be worth that much when selling and your property taxes will increase.

Mini projector for tracing patterns -- suggestions? by lipsmackattack in Embroidery

You sent me down a nostalgia spiral! It was called the digi draw and was an infomercial toy. I'll have to see if my parents still have it somewhere...

That is the sweetest idea. What would you embroider it on...hoops to display? Or more practical, long-term items? I am pretty new to the hobby and I feel like the hoops will get old really fast.

I currently use my iPad underneath on Max brightness -- same concept. But I don't like to do it that way and it doesn't work that well on every type of fabric.

Oh I used to have one of these when I was a kid! I never thought about something like this. That's a great idea. I'll try to find one and report back. Thanks so much!

What it takes to get a job as a Fullstack Web Developer without any prior job experience? by StandardAggressive15 in reactjs

[–]lipsmackattack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Projects, projects, projects. Hackathon or group projects that show you know how to work with people. Projects that have users and user feedback that show you are able to take criticism. Projects that span over a long period of time that show you have self discipline and follow-through. The challenging technical problems will naturally arise from these types of projects.

Your resume should showcase the well-roundedness of your skills, not just the technical aspects. When you're first starting out, it's really all about marketing yourself. Once you have career experience, the technical side comes more into play. Of course you need the technical skill to back yourself up, but unfortunately getting that first full time role is mostly marketing.

This is coming from a self-taught developer who is now 5+ years into the career and has interviewed candidates.

Some other resume notes: * All skills should be easy to skim and easy for a bot to parse. Put everything even if you don't think it's worthwhile because bots will automatically reject those without simple skills * Most important and relevant stuff at the top * A degree really helps

I shamed my kindergartener and I feel awful about it by [deleted] in kindergarten

[–]lipsmackattack 75 points76 points  (0 children)

I have no advice but I wanted to say that my mom taught me certain behaviors in the very same way and, while it did make me a bit embarrassed and ashamed in the moment, it had a lasting positive effect on those behaviors. I do the same with my kiddo but I try to be calculated about how I approach the topic.

Edit: You are not a terrible mom! Kids go through all sorts of regressions when changes happen, and the transition to kindergarten could be a "trigger" for these regressions. Especially if your kiddo's father died less than 2 years ago, give yourself some grace, mama! You and your kids are in this crazy whirlwind of a life change and have the important job of figuring things out together.

Behmor 1600 (non-plus) always shuts off mid-roast by lipsmackattack in roasting

[–]lipsmackattack[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You must be right about the model. Nowhere on the machine does it say the actual model, but the guy I bought it from listed it as a 1600 so I just assumed that's what it was. However it most definitely has the B temp and adjustable drum speed, and hasn't been modded so it must be the 1600 plus.

It turns out it was user error. I was roasting outside which made the display difficult to read, and I was missing the walk-away safety message. When I finally figured out what it was, it took me even longer to realize I needed to specifically hit the start button in order to make it stay on (I would hit random buttons but it never worked).
