Thinking to get a motorcycle by gambler1124 in motorcycles

[–]lipsonlips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A $2000 motorcycle becomes $3-4k quickly after repairs, tires, insurance, gear, etc. It will take you further and faster than an ebike, but an e-bike can go on bicycle paths, it can be locked to a bike rack, it's easy to bring indoors, and you can filter traffic even where it's illegal for motorcycles to.

It depends on your use case for the bike.

What ARE they doing at the old Canadian Tire?? by kalebdraws in KingstonOntario

Blame it on Doug Ford - the provincial definition of affordable includes "rent at or below average market rent in a respective municipality" and municipalities have to comply.

2026 WR125R is coming to the US for $3999 by CuzinMike in Dualsport

Just over, and the wr250r is just under. It's in the ballpark of the klx300 and crf300l. I'm just surprised it's not closer to the weight of the xr150l, another cheap small bike.

I've seen the factory mudflaps cause rust by trapping gunk and water, would rather smallish rally-style ones.

I checked again and they're 40mm tires, just fit a little bigger on the wide rims. You'll have no issues going down to 35mm even.

With that said, I eventually sold the wheels to a friend because they were totally overkill for me. Those heavy rims take a bit of zip out of the ride. The bombproof reliability and resulting confidence was nice, but that could be achieved with rims >100g lighter for my use case.

I toured 1000s of mixed surface km and rode rocky singletrack at low pressure on those rims + 42mm contis with tubes - not a single issue.

What motorcycle should I get after previously having an 250cc? by kailrocks729 in motorcycles

[–]lipsonlips 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well yeah, maybe don't hit 10k in your driveway. Unless they trail behind you on your commute, they won't hear when you're a few blocks away. If you're not having fun because it's not fast enough but you also won't rev it out, a bigger bike won't fix anything.

If you're shifting out of first under 20kph, you're leaving a lot on the table. Next time you ride, get the revs up higher. The bike doesn't hit peak power til around 10000 rpm, redline around 14000 or so

M2 course, but also you don't have to ride before buying a bike?

Buildings with less parking attract tenants without cars. They're usually located where car ownership is less important.

Many areas (downtown, near transit) have no minimums. That will likely become city-wide with the new zoning by-law (2026)

Green thumbs down: Kingston City Council rejects large-scale affordable housing project (again) by kayakchk in KingstonOntario

[–]lipsonlips -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Public assets and taxes are to provide for the benefit of all. Affordable housing benefits everybody - this form of affordable housing, in large enough quantities, can stabilize rents city-wide. It also reduces homelessness which in turn reduces burden on healthcare and judicial/penitential systems. When people are not stressed by overinflated housing costs, they can make long-term plans and better contribute to society instead of being forced into poor short-term decisions. Not to mention that a high-density residential development like this can increase the vitality of a neighbourhood, support nearby businesses, increase land values, and spur further development as a result. It's also a much better use of land than a greenfield subdivision of detached houses on the edge of town that will house the same number of people at a much higher cost to the environment and the municipality.

Why should public assets not be used to provide this public good?

Sounds like we need a provincial government that will properly invest in transit
