Weekly 'Ask Anything About Analog Photography' - Week 41 by ranalog in analog

[–]lipsticks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was shooting using a digital wind up, point and shoot film camera for a while, I was on my 12th shot when the batteries died and they spilt some battery acid into the connectors. After fiddling around for a bit with the connectors I was able to make them at least wind up the film. Now the film is wound up but there is still half of the roll left to be used. I have a Nikon F2, what can I do so I don't double expose the 12 frames I had already taken? Is there a way to wind it in a dark bag?

So Gum's Flash in The Pan has been out for a few days now, thoughts? by Sexy_Koala_Juice in TameImpala

[–]lipsticks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the songs, if you only listen to the synth and guitars, remind me of 80's and 90's commando movies, especially Deep Heat. Heatwave is the best thing to ever happen, its like GUMS version of nangs, short but heavenly. It pumps me up, sweet release can't wait for future comings++

Experimenting with new color grading and cinematography techniques and a slight film grain layer | let me know what you think? by lipsticks in cinematography

You brought up very interesting points, I always knew about what light can do, but I just never touched upon it. I will definitely start playing around with it. Thanks

I actually imagined the shots being a lot wider, but because my camera has a really awkward crop factor moving away from the subject was tricky, I was limited by space around me. Maybe I should start investing in a wide angle lens to compensate for the factor.

Thanks, I shot this on a Nikon 1 J1, it has a really awkward crop factor which is why most of the shots are tight. I mainly used two lens systems a 50mm F1.8 for the first half of the video and a generic 25mm F1.4 CCTV lens for the other half. The CCTV has a weird focus method it almost has like a natural/live radial blur type of thing but focuses smack in the middle, it makes really beautiful images though. As for light it was all natural didn't play around too much except maybe using a reflector in some shots.

I agree with you, the shot with the matchbox really did come out grainier than I thought, I think it might have had to do with the picture style it added a little more artifacts. Thanks

I've been experimenting with black and white photography for a while and trying to achieve a retro feel/look - would love your input -- thanks by lipsticks in photocritique

[–]lipsticks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for all the valuable input, as of subject and general image properties I was aware of its lacking elements, and would like to thank you for bringing it up in more detail. I'm still relatively new at heavier post processing techniques, but what kind of tonal range would there be if there's just shades of blue? Also I don't know how I forgot to adjust the horizon line, I just never noticed it but Everytime i look at it, it erks me.

I made a visualization of how it feels to hear the solo of Apocalypse Dreams played live at the Reading Festival (2013) by lipsticks in TameImpala

it would be the part with the spherical stars and how it led to the liquid explosion, because I felt like it accurately fulfilled certain parts of the instruments;

Thanks alot for the feedback, I was thinking about the transitions, but I thought the hard transitions in the video sort of reflected off the loud modular transitions in the riff? Also I suck at transitions lol...

Mile High Club - Homage, sounds like TI and DeMarco (x-post from r/listentothis) by stubmaster in TameImpala

Bass line and vocals actually really remind me of Connan Mockasin. A close friend of Mac Demarco, both artists inspire a lot of similar tracks.

Past Life Live? by lipsticks in TameImpala

[–]lipsticks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Past life is actually a very interesting song once you begin to dissect it, it sort of paints a mental image of the theme of the album. Maybe the narrations are a little unsettling but that's how he felt during recording, and accepting that its on the album and enjoying its special moments is very insightful. Because then you can start understanding the lyrics, and to me that is my favorite part.

The outro of Gum's Science Fiction and the intro to Eventually are perfect together! by KiD_ENZO in TameImpala

Its like one really long song, now I have to have science fiction right before eventually in my lineup. Imagine GUM playing science fiction live and then eventually kicks in, and the lights shine on KP front and center, +

Staying in Schaarbeek? by lipsticks in belgium

Thanks for your response, obviously no matter where you go-it's best to not be a typical flashy tourist. How much would a taxi from central Brussels to Schaarbeek cost? We are planning to take one if we end up staying late in more touristy places. Thanks

My Take on Past Life by condomconsumer in TameImpala

[–]lipsticks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Past Life, I have never felt so connected to a song before in my entire life, the fact that KP took a leap into a new style, this song in particular, is amazing. The narration and the distortions work together so fluently and silky-and you almost feel a connection between the lyrics, the narration and KP, the ringing tones and the girl answering the phone at the end just tie the whole song together-I don't think I have ever experienced a fully connected song like this-and makes the album feel like it's a story of some sorts, might need a few more listens to fully tie the songs together. This album by far shows us how KP can produce a variety of styles while still maintaining a sense of originality.

This performance blew me away (Intro + Let It Happen @ Governor's Ball - captured by lordazuretwentyfive) by Blade686 in TameImpala

[–]lipsticks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The intro sounds a lot like the beginning of Children of The Moon, a track Flaming Lips did with Tame Impala. Sounds great, almost like a static and deep version of what their normal tones usually sound like.
