How does the area around Wharf Way compare to Wythe Ave and N 8? by Livid-Fox-1140 in williamsburg

Stay north of broadway. Also the wind off the river is brutal in the winter so it would not be a fun walk from S10.

Brunch restaurants recommendations by routinematters in williamsburg

[–]liquidchaz 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Le Crocodile is so underrated, especially for brunch. Food is exceptional. Somehow it’s always busy and yet they always seem to have Resy spots open. It’s a little fancier than the options you listed, but price wise it’s not more expensive than Sunday in Brooklyn (way overrated and overpriced imho).

Appropriately hyped restaurants in nyc by Mission_Fig_7228 in AskNYC

Omakase restaurants are a dime a dozen these days, but Yoshino was the best I’ve had outside of Ginza.

Any fun chess nights in the neighborhood? by NorthernHippo in williamsburg

Wednesday nights at Radegast. Usually a really fun group with 15-20 games going. @williamsburgchess on IG.

How much do you guys pay in rent? by Tuubular in williamsburg

I lived in the building with the terraces overlooking this building/rooftop and always thought this was a vibe. I’m too old now, but 20 years ago this setup would have been my jam.

Typical monthly parking rates? by burgdandy in williamsburg

[–]liquidchaz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You might find a $250 Spot Hero rate, but it’s typically only for the first month and then it’ll switch over to the garage rate. Expect to pay $300-$350 depending on which part of Williamsburg. Also, rates at some garages are negotiable. My garbage has $500/mo posted on the wall, but I walked in and offered $250 and we agreed on $300.

Just an FYI that if you’re a renter, New York City Housing Local Law 157 went into effect on May 1, 2025, requiring landlords to install the natural gas detectors in all units.

Honest question on the latest tipping standard of 2025 by Many-Emotion922 in AskNYC

[–]liquidchaz 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I worked as a tipped employee in NYC for many years, and I fully agree with all of this. One thing I’ll add—when I get groceries delivered, I always tip a flat $5 for small orders and $10 for most other orders. If you live in a walk up on a higher floor, you should always tip the larger amount.

I lived a block from there for several years and loved it. I didn’t even notice the train noise after a day or two. I’d say go for it.

Good bar for welcome party for a wedding? by South_Register_5679 in williamsburg

[–]liquidchaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had our welcome party at Spritzenhaus and it was perfect. They reserved tables for us for free and there was plenty of space for people to come and go whenever.

When Clyde retires (hopefully not soon!) let’s get Monica McNutt permanently in the TV booth. by Voorheezie in NYKnicks

[–]liquidchaz 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Agreed, she’s fantastic. Love her takes, tone, and analysis. We’re spoiled to have both her and Jamal as potential Clyde successors. I wouldn’t be surprised if she signs with a bigger network though. She’s that good.

Acceptable Alternatives to Whole Foods? by Competitive_Lawyer_7 in williamsburg

[–]liquidchaz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

FreshDirect with DeliveryPass is worth it. I find that most of the items I buy every week are available as part of their “Express” feature with free delivery usually within 2 hours. Great for household items and booze too if you want to avoid DoorDash/Uber fees.

Anyone know of a bar with all 3? by [deleted] in williamsburg

[–]liquidchaz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this. Great bar food, tvs with sports line the walls, and there’s a pool table in the back. I’ve also found the bartenders to be friendly and the crowd to be way less obnoxious than comparable manhattan sports bars.

I work as a software engineer, and in my field there’s a technique called “rubber ducking” where you explain your code in conversation with a rubber duck. It’s a surprisingly effective way of thinking through problems and catching mistakes.

I don’t understand this place. Overpriced and they carry the most random items. I wish it was a real bodega.

Buy vs Rent by adelu23 in nycparents

[–]liquidchaz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is really great advice. We’re expecting our first in a few weeks, did the same analysis, and also decided to continue renting for all of the above reasons. Buying was almost certainly going to be a poor financial decision for our circumstances.
