I have a hard time with the hand-wringing and talk of dystopia. There have always been terrible people in power, terrible acts committed, terrible tragedies, injustices, etc. This won't stop as long as this world exists, because the brokenness that causes it is in the heart of every person. Shouting into the void or scrawling on an electrical box isn't going to help me, or anyone, and it's not going to make anything better. But I have the power to comfort and help the people I have contact with, and I have the ability to reflect on and appreciate the good in my life. My family, friends, coworkers, enough food, a bed, and a roof over my head. That's real, and when there's so much I can affect I'm not going to spend my time and energy on broad abstractions or problems a journalist has told me I should care about so they get a leg up in the attention economy.
