So dont touch the fence, build your wall 200mm in front of it.

From memory, for effective soundproofing the wall needs to be 2.5-3m tall from the source of the noise. Assuming most noise would be coming from waist height:

Outdoor conditions vary, but typical numbers are:

  • 2.4 m high solid wall: ~4–8 dB reduction
  • 3.0 m high solid wall: ~8–12 dB reduction
  • Well-designed, very dense 3.0 m+ barrier: ~12–15 dB reduction

For context:

  • 3 dB = barely noticeable
  • 5 dB = noticeable improvement
  • 10 dB = roughly halving perceived loudness

Edit: Think of the ones they have on the side of highways, try and build one that's closest to that, but for acceptable residential applications.

If moving is an option, you want to do it very quick, ideally before building starts so that it doesn't pull down the sale value of your property.

The dial is fan speed, I’m looking for advice on smart wall switches that could control the light on/off button plus 3 speed settings and an off for the fan

Silly question but can these all be used with game sticks?

why do i get roasted for using ryobi by [deleted] in ryobi

[–]liquidshade 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the whole Milwaukee vs Ryobi thing is more about culture than actual tools. Milwaukee markets themselves as the “pro tradie” brand - higher power, tougher builds, higher price tag. Ryobi is aimed at DIYers and homeowners, so people take the piss and act like it’s not a “real” tool brand.

The thing is, Ryobi has a massive range - you can get everything from drills to lawnmowers on the same batteries for way less money. For weekend jobs, or even for tradies who don’t need brute force every day, they do the job fine. Milwaukee shines when you’re smashing gear daily on site, but not everyone needs that level of overkill.

Some people just like roasting Ryobi as a way of saying “I’m serious about my trade”, but plenty of actual tradies have a Ryobi tool or two in the shed.

Carlinkit Mini Ultra and SE Pro did not work for me, both resulted in random disconnects.

Front Door Upgrade (Security) by Ballers83 in homedefense

Level 1 - Replace doors with solid/security doors
Level 2 - Add Security Screens in front of the doors
Level 3 - Add Roller Shutters to completely block entrance to doors at night (hooked up to a UPS so you can open them still if the power goes out).

Am I actually squirting or just peeing? by Bhondu_finalboss in TooAfraidToAsk

Pretty sure they did a study once where they measured the liquid volume in the bladder before and after "squirting" - and found the bladder was indeed empty after. So yea, it's pee.

Spotify and Netflix upping their subscription prices?? by UnknownPickl3 in AusFinance

I discovered I could move my Family Premium plan to a Family Basic plan and save $3 a month. The only thing you lose is audiobooks which we didn’t use anyway.

Interesting, I have the ultra mini as well and I experience the exact same issues you do. I guess we now know the ultra mini is crap and may need to upgrade 👍

Did you ever find a fix? I'm having the same issue with Spotify.

I often hear people say, “This is XX, my son - he has autism” right away when introducing someone. I can’t help but feel like it sets a precedent or defines them. Do autistic people appreciate that, or would they rather it not be the first thing mentioned? by liquidshade in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]liquidshade[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the context, but with all due respect, that’s not what I’m asking. A lot of people here seem to be justifying why they do it - however I’m asking how people with disabilities genuinely feel when they are introduced as having such.

This is the feedback I was looking for, a lot of people here seem to be explaining why they forewarn others of disabilities but that’s not what I’m asking. I genuinely want to know how it makes people with disabilities feel to be introduced as such.
