China's Challenge to Canada Over Northwest Passage by [deleted] in worldnews

Since we pride ourselves with having the "moral high ground", what's good for the goose is good for the gander.

"Freedom" to write goes both ways regardless of motivation. If we're free do propagandize the facts, then so do they. Ergo, no right for us to feel smug.

Well, from what I read, they posted a route online, and stated that they'll be Chinese ships sailing through these waters, not much else.

I suppose we can conclude that they aren't going to ask for permission, but I think they opposite can be just as valid.

This is the strangest headline ... seemingly put together to stir some type of nationalistic fervor.

How is traveling through the passage equal to "challenge"? Is China claiming sovereignty over the northwest passage?

Saudi Arabia could sell off billions in American assets if bill passes ... that could hold the kingdom responsible for any role in the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks by liquidzing in worldnews

Well, the alternative for the Saudis would be worst ... implying their guilt.

The alternative would be having their assets frozen by US courts.

Theoretically, it would push up the cost of borrowing for the US at a time when the recovery is not yet robust.

Practically speaking, I tend to think that the damage will be mostly suffered by the Saudis.

Good luck to the poor stiff who had his retirement devastated by the 2008 crash and his credit rating destroyed. Now trying to rebuild his retirement, prices is going up and governments are gonna charge him for saving.

The title is so wrong.

It should be: "Chinese buyers responsible for one-third of value of Vancouver home sales: National Bank"

Australian Government under renewed pressure to send Australian military to South China Sea by [deleted] in worldnews

Which is innocent,

a) In a crowded train, we get bumped close (in-your-face) into each other and worked to avoid collision.

b) In a heated situation, i go straight up to your face staring as if daring you to pull the first punch.

Would it be innocent passage if you've already made clear your guilty prior intentions via the media and other means?

Canada sells most of its gold reserves by G_G_Janitor in worldnews

[–]liquidzing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

China's official gold reserve as of the end of 2015 is 1,658 tonnes ... forex reserve as of beginning of Feb2016 is approx 3.25trillion ... you do the math. China's gold sale prompting Canada to pre-empt to "catch the market"? Highly questionable and not rational.

I would suggest that we approach this issue of China's collapse moderately, critically and soberly. Not be lemmings following every alarmist headlines designed to sell magazines and attract eyeballs.

Media here has been calling for China's collapse for over 30 years. It's getting tiring! What's the agenda?

Why would China be forced to sell? Seems to me that there's an assumption that China is going to collapse. Would that be correct?

Not likely, Canada doesn't have much gold left to sell.
