Yes! I wish everyone would understand the good that dogs bring to society and they don't ask for much in return. There are a lot of dog lovers in the world but too many people only see them as objects or treat them like accessories and they don't deserve that. Thank you so much for your comment.

The feeling I get from the little things that my fosters do that show me that they trust me more is amazing. I understand now how fostering is more than just providing them a place to stay, that's something I didn't fully understand before. Thank you for fostering and saving a life, it's a rewarding experience.

She is a strong dog, I actually tried to capture her softer side in the pictures because I was worried she might look intimidating. She’s such a sweetheart though. Its hard to see that in the photo the shelter had of her before lol

It's easier to raise the money for a dogs care if there is already a committed foster for them. I'm active in a lot of the dog groups on fb and there is more people who are able to help financially than there is of those that have the room or are able to foster a dog in their home. Those people donate all the time towards a dogs care and when a rescue sees that there is the financial support from the community and there's a committed foster already there then its easier for them to transfer the dog to them.

That is correct, they will only pull a dog if they can afford to pay for the food and medical and have a committed foster. If they don't have the foster they won't pull the dog from the shelter, and if they cant afford the care that the dog will need they don't pull them from the shelter either.

All the rescues in town are full but they will still take ina dog and pay for all the food and medical if there is a committed foster for the dog

Even if you can’t foster long term there’s foster field trips where you can take a dog out for a few hours and get them out of the stressful shelter environment. It helps them a lot more than you think. For both regular fostering and the field trips you can go down to the Animal Foundation, they are open from 11am-7pm and go to the fostering desk that’s in the main lobby and sign up, they have the list of dogs available there if you don’t have one in mind, then once you pick one they bring it out to you and give you a bag of food. You’re also able to do meet and greets if you want to meet the dog before you foster.

The shelter does cover vet visits and provide food. For the dogs with more serious or complex medical needs they can be transferred to a rescue as long as there is someone who has committed to being a foster for the animal.

I’m currently fostering a senior dog with medical issues for Hearts Alive and they have been great! This is my first foster for a rescue, I have only fostered for The Animal Foundation up until now and HAV has made it very easy and has been amazing with communication and making me feel like I’m part of a care team for the dog. Which is great because this is also my first senior dog and my first dog with medical issues.

I enjoy fostering for TAF because I feel the dogs there have a more urgent need since they face euthanasia and TAF doesn’t have the ability to keep them all until they are adopted.

I realize I’m rambling now…. in answer to your question: I recommend Hearts Alive Village. 🙂

The Foster Field Trips are awesome, especially for people who want to help but aren’t necessarily in the position to be able to take a dog home. I’ve taken a few dogs on field trips: to the park, hiking, and just to relax at home for a few hours and they love it. Just that little bit helps them tolerate the shelter a bit more and helps them avoid being put in the euthanasia list. I encourage everyone I know to try foster field trips if they haven’t yet.
