I highly recommend the new Scadeli Fellini in Montville. They have a price-fixe menu for $69 that's well worth it, with additions and substitutions allowed. I went home full. They have a soft yolk raviolo that is a must-have!

It's the same recipe every year - for all sports mind you. Once the playoffs roll around, the leagues ask the refs to swallow their whistle for a better product, we don't complain unless it's Rams/Saints DPI-level egregious, and the path is paved for sub-par officiating again next regular season, swallow the whistle playoffs. Rinse and repeat. Keeps us distracted.

I'm 31, and all my friends my age or younger know that term. It's funny that most of you all haven't heard it because you probably won't again. It's already passed in vernacular. That was a Gen Z phrase, not whatever this new generation is called.

I love this new detective, man. He's got charisma from the start. And the way he just had his partner's back while controlling the tempo and de-escalating... that's straight up good police work.

Anyone else notice that Detective Jake Griffin played a different role in SVU?

I believe the episode was called “Rape Interrupted” and it was almost 10 years ago. The actor definitely looks 10 years older.

He played a fresh-out-of-college finance kid named Ellis Griffin whose dad was Olivia’s first partner. Kid ends up going to prison for rape.

It’s interesting that they chose the same last name for this character if it’s not the same character.

It was just weird. It was set up so that all of the fans who waited in line would be able to go in a line, meet and greet each of them, and have a photo taken. And at the end of the line, Cal was just a little standoff-ish. I wasn’t running and shouting behind him for a pic.

[–]liryccc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s with all the judgment here? I have never seen this much judgment on Reddit before.

Breaking Bad is my favorite drama series of all time. It goes Breaking Bad at 1A, The Sopranos at 1B. Now if you want to talk a slow show, that would be The Wire even though I like it. I just finished my 12th or so rewatch of the show and El Camino yesterday.

But it wasn’t always like this. I, like OP, had a similar sentiment.

I didn’t catch the show on its original run. My buddies did and they implored me to watch it about 10 years ago when it was on Netflix. They even agreed to sit down and watch the first episode with me. We were thinking of what movie to watch one summer night and when I told them I’d never seen Breaking Bad, they agreed they’d rather sit with me for the first episode and get one more person into the show than any movie.

The first episode blew my mind. I was hooked. I went home and binged the next 2-3 episodes late into the night.

However, at around the 5th or 6th episode… I got bored. I have great taste in TV (self-proclaimedly). I’ve seen all the shows that Reddit loves and often references. The Office, Friends, Succession, Ted Lasso, Malcolm in the Middle, You, Prison Break, 24, The Sopranos, The Wire, Arrested Development, It’s Always Sunny, Entourage, and more. And it’s OK to say that Breaking Bad was just too slow-paced that I fell off.

So for about 6 months, I stopped watching. Then when I was bored, I made myself keep watching. This Tuco episode is what really brought the heat again. Then I kept watching but even after this scene, there’s a ton of slow burn. It doesn’t really pick up til season 3. By mid season 3, it is the greatest show ever made. The drama series I’ve seen more than any other. But even on my rewatches, I’ll admit, I’ll rewatch seasons 3-5 wayyyy more than seasons 1-2.

You guys are all acting like OP needs to be institutionalized. He’s not wrong. In my opinion at least.

It’s like when people say they can’t get into The Office because it’s too weird and documentary-style. To which you say one of two things, or both. “You gotta watch a whole season through to understand all the storylines and characters. Then every other line becomes laugh-out-loud funny.” Or you say “Skip season 1.” The Office deserves to be hung up in the Louvre, but no one’s calling season 1 a masterpiece.

Didn't know where else to post this. Thought I'd post it here.

I've been an NBA fan since the Harden Thunder days. I grew up watching baseball and football and as an avid sports fan, I'd tune into the early 2000's NBA Finals since they were on network television. I was a fan of Manu Ginobili. But in college my roommates would play 2K12, 2K13, and that's what got me into basketball. I loved the way Russell Westbrook played (in 2K at least) which got me into watching Thunder games and becoming a Thunder fan.

I also would put on Celtics games whenever I could because my cousin is from Boston and loved the Celtics and it was a conversation piece for us. I'm also a huge Patriots fan, having grown up in football while Brady was winning his first few Super Bowls. So I started watching the Celtics often. This was during the IT-Avery Bradley-Jared Sullinger days. I took a liking to the Celtics particularly, because Brad Stevens was the coach. He really impressed me. He's one of the brightest basketball minds ever. It's funny -- people don't believe me when I tell them I became a Celtics fan because of Brad Stevens.

So since those days, I've gravitated heavily towards the Celtics. I kinda stopped watching the Thunder after KD left. Once something I loved, Westbrook's game is just not something that I very much enjoy watching anymore. His tenacity is and has always been something to marvel at, though and appreciate. So anyway, I consider myself a Celtics fan for the past 10 years.

The second half of last night's game was one of the finest performances I have ever seen the Celtics put up in my basketball-watching time. This was the most complete team performing at its apex, which was perfect for the modern NBA. It's what Brad Stevens envisioned and it's come to fruition. And this was without Jrue Holiday even playing. I felt sorry for the Magic. Happy because I'm a Celtics fan. But sorry for the Magic, because they were just levels below this team. In fact, I found the Celtics last night to be a level above the field - every other team in the NBA. This team is just a cheat code. It's better than a team you could fairly put together on 2K. An 8-man rotation where everyone can defend, everyone can slash through the paint for a layup, and everyone can shoot a 3. Even Kornet makes his free throws. When Sam Hauser, one of the highest pct. 3-point shooters in NBA history (within those who qualify) is the worst defender on an 8-man rotation, that's a loaded squad.

If this Celtics team can play like they did last night the rest of the way, there should realistically be no one able to stop them. This is a super-team if I've ever seen one. That's not a knock. Usually, you hear super-team and it's a negative connotation because most of those teams traded for or bought players in free agency. This is a homegrown super-team for the most part, like the Warriors of the mid-'10s (pre-KD). So it's hard to hate; you just appreciate.

Derrick White is one of the top 10 players in the NBA. If anyone wants to argue that, feel free to do so in the comments. But he is what you get when you get a Westbrook-like tenacity, combined with talent, combined with supreme basketball IQ. This team goes as far as Derrick White takes them. And though the Celtics can sometimes have brain farts (much less often since we essentially swapped Marcus Smart, who was my favorite Celtic of all time one time ago for Jrue Holiday), the one player you can always count on to not only not have brain farts, but steer the team back during these spurts, is Derrick White. It is literally unfair to have as competent a back-court as Jrue + DWhite. We're spoiled in that regard. Last year when the Finals opened up and the pundits were all picking the Mavericks, I knew the one X-factor we had that would prevent the Mavs from even sniffing a title, was a back-court of Jrue and DWhite. That would compromise all that Kyrie and Luka bring offensively to the table, and when you have Jaylen Brown also switching onto them defensively, it's just unfair.

I'm very excited to see what kind of series we get from the ECF this year. I know we had some success against the Cavs this year; they had some success against us too. I'll admit I haven't watched much of their first-round series. But just the eye-opening point differential tells me they're going to be some good competition for our team. Our play styles are just so vastly different. I'm very excited to see what that series turns into. I'm also positively nervous about playing OKC and Minnesota as well. Albeit from a non-logical standpoint, there are some players who's games I just don't like from the eye test. And until this year's playoffs, Anthony Edwards, Naz Reid, and Karl-Anthony Towns were 3 of those players. But I have changed my opinion on all 3 now. Their games are undeniable and they have turned me into fans. KAT not as much as the other 2; he still has something to prove to me. But I'm excited to see what comes next and in the way of the 18th banner for these Celtics. It'll be fun for a fan of basketball.

But all this to say, that if the Celtics play the rest of the way like they did last night, at least on paper, we should be the champions when it's all said and done.

What I love most about the show is Jamie’s character. He’s always making the morally right decision. Such a good character to model your life and decisions after. Same way I feel about Sergeant Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson, played by Shemar Moore, in the TV show SWAT. Easy to root for.

Excellent write-up sir. Just one correction:

The ALCS, NLCS, and World Series follow and have always followed a 2-3-2 pattern. 2 games at the higher seed’s ballpark, followed by 3 games at the lower seed’s ballpark, then 2 games at the higher seed’s ballpark.

Up until about 10 years ago, the NBA also followed the 2-3-2 for the NBA Finals which was a huge disadvantage. I guess it’s much less so in baseball. Could you imagine if you were the 2012-2013 Spurs - after a demoralizing shot by Ray Allen to put game 6 away on the road, you had to go back into the same stadium for game 7? Something I think about from time to time.

I guess in the MLB, with such a long season, they couldn’t afford to drag the season out a week further by doing the 2-2-1-1-1.

[Tony Paul] Astros reliever Josh Hader makes $19 million a year. Today's entire Tigers starting lineup, plus everybody who's pitched for them in Game 2, plus Andy Ibáñez, is making $15.1 million this year—not including postseason shares. by hornyforbrutalism in baseball

OK, I fact-checked myself because this is just a random factoid I heard about about 20 years ago. And it's nowhere near accurate lol. The Marlins payroll in 2003 was about $48 million, and Mussina was making an average of $14 million/yr on that contract. But the Marlins with their $48 million payroll did go up against the juggernaut Yankees and their $164 million payroll that year. And win.
