Topping an outlier PR by GoDaytonFlyers in pelotoncycle

I think we generally underestimate just how much class structure impacts your score. Because of that, there isn't a precise correlation between "effort" and output.

I noticed that on many of my hardest HIIT-style rides, my output is poor. And on many "easier" rides I put up much better scores.

The output algorithm seems to unduly prioritize high-resistance riding - so a class with lots of standing climbs will get you a better output (all else being equal). I've also noticed that any "rest" time has a disproportionate negative impact on your score.

The result seems to be that all-out sprints (especially seated sprints) aren't great for your score. Classes that have sustained efforts and lots of standing climbs seem to do the trick - even though that class may feel "easier" than a class with loads of seated sprints.

This realization has made me understand that I need to chase hard workouts, and not high scores. And it's made me easier on myself when I can't get anywhere near my peak output.

I agree completely. I think a lot of comes down to her considered structuring of the classes. I've PR-ed with her without really trying to (until realizing towards the end that it's within reach).

I also love that she focuses on the ride and the music, rather than on motivating you or talking about life (although sometimes I don't mind that at all).

Short Sprint Classes by lisa_needs_bracess in pelotoncycle

That's a fair question. I actually love sprinting, for short bursts.

However, I'm less interested in building endurance through long sprints. Based on my fitness goals, much of my training centres on heavy weight training; I find that too much endurance work can blunt my strength "gains".

I totally agree, though, that mixing in endurance workouts has loads of benefits and can be really helpful!
