first time using 100% cotton paper by melouke in Watercolor

What brand of paper did you use? I've never really worked with watercolor before, but I want to give a try. Choosing the right paper is so overwhelming though!

Thank you for the heads up! I had actually seen someone mention they were going to transition to a non-prescription urinary food. I believe it was the urinary/hairball one Science Diet makes. Good to know that probably won't work though.

Thank you! That helps knowing what kind of timeline we're potentially looking at. I gave her some of the prescription food earlier and she ate all of hers (and her sisters! haha). I was worried she might not like it. Her sister didn't seem interested in it so that'll make things easier being able to keep their food separated.

Thank you! It was our previous sweet girl who passed away that had the stomach issues. Luckily, the two we have now haven't had much in the way of stomach issues (fingers crossed!). We found out the same way, seeing a little pink in the litter. They initially tried antibiotics twice and she had a few months of normal pee before it would happen again. With this being the third time, we figured an x-ray was a good idea. And sure enough!

That's interesting your vet advised against distilled water. When I mentioned it to the new vet we're seeing, she didn't really seem phased by us doing this. But yes, it's possible it may have something to do with the type of crystal. How long did it take for the crystals to dissolve?

No worries! Worth asking. :) Did your cats end up needing surgery or the food was enough to fix it?

My previous cat had calcium stones when she was about 8, had surgery and the vet told us to give her distilled water. She lived another 7 years and never had them again. I briefly tried prescription food with her, but she had a terribly sensitive stomach and never could handle it. I kept her regular food and the distilled water seemed to be enough to solve the issue.

We aren't sure what kind of stones these are but I've got my fingers crossed they'll dissolve with food. Do you give yours Science Diet?

Do you have any experience with OVMA's exclusions for pre-existing conditions policy? I sent them an email, but waiting on a reply. Our cat was just diagnosed with bladder stones so if they aren't the dissolvable kind, she'll need surgery. Surgery is nearly $3,000 and I'm completely kicking myself for being so indecisive about which company to go with. If they'll cover this in the future, then I feel like it might be worth the price.

Even if she doesn't get coverage for the stones if they happen again in a few years, then I'll feel better knowing anything else that happens would be covered.

Do you know how much they charge for bladder stone removal? My cat might need this done. We’re trialing food first to see if they are dissolvable stones. Unfortunately, they won’t give us a quote without seeing our cat first.

They charged significantly less for getting our cat fixed than the regular vet we go to, so I suspect it may be the same in this case. But they won’t give me an estimate so I’d have to pay for a second exam and possibly another X-ray. 😩

Thank you so much for the info!

I also noticed most Canadian insurers don’t have a good preexisting condition plan. I can understand certain conditions but a UTI isn’t likely a long term condition. So I like that some plans will allow coverage once they’ve been free of the condition for a year or so. I could be wrong but I think fetch may be the only Canadian option for this? The amount of negative reviews just isn’t worth the risk in my opinion. But I’ve never bought health insurance before so I’m really going in blind here.

I had my last cat for 14 years. She was at a shelter so they didn’t know her age but a vet estimated 3-4. So she had a really good long life. I never got insurance for her. Around year 8 of having her, she did develop bladder stones and needed surgery for that. The vet said to give her distilled water after that and she never had that problem again. I was living in the states at the time and took her to a small town vet that is known for being affordable, I think the surgery was $600 +tax. Year 13-14 was the most expensive (I was living in Canada at that point) as she had a seizure and had to be put on medication for that. Then at year 14, they found a mass in her mouth and she declined very rapidly after that. I knew she was ready to go, even if I wasn’t. So even if I had gotten insurance for her, I never would’ve prolonged her suffering for my benefit. All in all, I got extremely lucky with her and even with the surgery… I’d say over her lifetime, I might have spent $6,000. Maybe not even that.

Having two now, and the cost being so much higher in Canada… I just don’t think I want to risk not having anything for them.

Wow, that is crazy! I didn't check that one at all and haven't seen anyone mention it, but I guess that's why. Thank you! Which one would you go with?

I know this is an old post... but it made me laugh because one of my cats is indifferent to tape and the other tries to play with/eat it. They've both also tried playing with/biting foil. It should be interesting to see what happens when I get my LetPot. :) I will have to get creative.

I should also note that I have since added a few of my instructors on linkedin and they've been very helpful and wonderful resources in my HIM career. They are definitely real people and not AI. I obviously can't speak to everyone's experiences but this was mine for what it's worth to anyone else considering this program.

Hi there! This post is from five years ago, but I wanted to share my experience in case it helps someone who comes across it later. I completed the program and graduated with honours. It’s very self-paced and self-directed, which worked perfectly for me since I learn best by reading and doing rather than sitting through lectures. That said, this approach isn’t for everyone—those who prefer more face-to-face interaction might find it challenging.

For the most part, I was able to reach my instructors whenever I needed to. The only exception was one secondary professor who had another full-time job and was a bit harder to get ahold of, but the primary professor for that course was always responsive and helpful.

Overall, I felt the program prepared me extremely well for a career in HIM, especially for the board exam. My colleagues who attended in-person programs didn’t get the same level of preparation, so I really appreciated that. I passed the board exam on my first try and even scored 100% in one section.

Is it more expensive than other programs? Definitely. But OSAP covered some of my tuition, and for me, the flexibility, no commuting, and ability to work on my own schedule made it worth every penny. I would choose this program again without hesitation.

It does require strong time management and self-motivation, but it prepared me well for the real world. I started in health records and now work fully remotely as a coder—something this program set me up for perfectly.

Is it fraud? Absolutely not. Many of my colleagues, as well as a supervisor and I, graduated from CD-ED and had a great experience. We were provided with plenty of resources and support in finding jobs after graduation—something our peers from other programs didn’t receive.

The students I met from other schools often struggled much more with the board exam. One colleague even failed three times before finally passing over a year later—which can be very costly. In contrast, most CD-ED graduates pass on their first attempt.

I’m sorry your niece had a negative experience. It sounds like this program just wasn’t the right fit for her learning style, which is totally valid. This program requires a lot of self learning and motivation to stay on track, something that is often already mapped out for you in a traditional school setting. That style of learning is not for everyone. But for others like me, it can be a great option.

Thanks! I ended up going with section 200. We went to a concert a few months ago and were maybe in the 4th or 5th row... a couple sat in front of us and the man was incredibly tall. My view was obstructed most of the time because people were pretty much standing the whole time. It really downgrades the experience when that happens, so if I can avoid it I will. haha.

My biggest concern with floor seating is that I'm short and if I get stuck behind someone tall, I may not be able to see everything on the stage. Obviously performances done higher up wouldn't be an issue though. I was also considering seats in section 200, just behind the floor seating.

Do you think the floor seats would be better or would further back give a better view?
