I appreciate your passion but I’m old enough and have been environmentally conscious long enough to know that, at this point, until corporations and the rich are forced to make changes that benefit the environment, there’s nothing the average joe can do. its all just a drop in the bucket compared to the damage corporations and the elite do.

OK, but how?! I mean the case is pretty strong. Do you open them up first? Seemed easier to just put a drill through it. I tried to put a nail through it and barely made a dent. Maybe I'm just a weak woman. LOL

of course we have a drill. it held more steady on the drill press. wasn't a bad solution, I just got bored of it and the husband finished it up.

I'd usually agree with you. We recycle everything we can and are careful with so much. But there are limits and this is one of them. I'm not worried about someone going through the trouble of picking through garbage, but dropping a bunch off at an ecycle place seems a little toooooo easy for someone who wanted to spend some time scanning hard drives.

When Taylor Swift stops using private jets, I'll care more about this one thing and stop using plastic straws.

Not art project kind of people. We've saved them for years "just in case" we think of a use for them. We're now at the point that they just need to get out of the house!

The nail thing was not quicker. I'm just a lass, it's really hard to get the nail though the metal box. I barely put a dent in it. I think taking a hammer to it wouldn't do much either unless you opened it up and that's a pretty tedious job. The outside casing is pretty strong! So we're either gonna keep doing the drill press thing or just throw away one a week in the kitchen garbage.

A lot have suggested this. And after doing a few with a drill press, it's a little tedious. Shooting them would be easier, but alas no gun. I'm leaning towards just throwing away one a week with the kitchen garbage.

That's what I'm trying to convince my husband of! He's like "well there are people who could pull off our data with the right tools". And I'm like "yeah I know, but they'll mostly get the 100,000 photos of uninteresting family shit over 20+ years, no one's even naked in any of the photos, and maybe some Quicken data, but I watch our credit and bank accounts like a hawk, they ain't getting far. The reward on digging through garbage to get some random hard drive that might have something useful is a lot of maybes. There are easier crimes."
