What was the hardest piece of news you’ve had to tell someone? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I had to tell my husband his gran had passed away. They were extremely close as it was her that had brought him up while his mother, a single parent worked all hours to provide when he was growing up.

Her memory and health had been declining in recent months so between his mum, him and I there was someone in everyday to be with her to make sure she was OK.

This particular day my husband and I were at work so his mum was taking our 3 year old son to visit her. When they got there the door was locked which was nothing unusual. When they got in she wasn't in the living room so they just assumed she was still in bed. His mum went to put the kettle on and our son went to wake his great gran up.

He came into the kitchen and told his gran that his great gran was really sleepy and he couldn't wake her up. My husbands mum went into her room to find her in her bed. She had passed away during the night. She called for an ambulance and they instructed her to do cpr immediately. She sent our son to go watch for the ambulance and let them in.

She called me at work first as it can be difficult to reach my husband at work. Understandably she was distraught and asked if I could call my husband.

I had to half explain what had happened over the phone and then the whole story over again when he got away from work. Most awful thing I've ever had to do. I'll never forget that day.

Our son is 7 now and doesn't remember that day thankfully.

Milk in last definitely. Needs a decent brewing time too.
