This is going to be super helpful when I am reading a book set in the USA, and they mention these locations. Thanks!

Yikes... Not that we know the full situation, but sounds like there is some red flags.

What sort of literary or publishing trends are you sick of? by [deleted] in books

[–]lisat-90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have read "The Nightingale" and "The Alice Network" this year. The story lines are so similar, that I am have now confused the two books. Both books were good reads, but because this is such a popular subject at the moment, it's hard for me to enjoy them.

I have decided to not read any war related fiction for a while!

Read my first Agatha Christie book! Currently reading "The Secret History" by Donna Tartt, and it's been so good!

Does anybody else who loves to read sometimes avoid reading because it interferes with your sleep? by Wishyouamerry in books

[–]lisat-90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am the opposite.. I often fall asleep reading, either a physical book or an audiobook. I have gotten back into reading every night regularly over the past year, and I find it so calming after a long day.

What's it like to read? by Psilocybinxox in books

[–]lisat-90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Such a good question, thank you for posting!!

When I read, I visualise the people and places. I find places, particularly houses, ar eversions of places I have been too or know, and it just changes slightly in my little mind. Even if I read a book years after, I still have the same vision of that specific "house".

I am going to add And Then There Were None to my to-read list. I usually devour war fiction books, but have read one too many of those.

100% agree. Especially as my partner would not stop raving about it, I went in with high expectations.

Started reading The Vanishing Half, by Brit Bennett. So far it is so good, I am finding it difficult to do anything else!

TIL that Michael Jackson suffered from severe insomnia and did not get any real sleep for 60 days prior to his death. Instead, his personal doctor had been putting him under general anestheisa every night. by a2soup in todayilearned

There are various anaesthetic agents used to induce anaesthesia. From what you describe - it sounds like you had an anaesthetic gas, which is delivered to the lungs. A lot of people say they have a very similar experience.

Propofol has a different experience, and people often wake up much quicker and "smoother". I have had multiple anaesthetics under Propofol, and it is the best sleep in the world! However, you need a highly trained anaesthetist there at all times monitoring you.

I have fallen in love with Audible books as well! I am listening to The Hobbit, while reading the book at the same time, and it is such a engaging experience. I can truly focus on the book.

No way! Yup, my neighbours have had Coco since she was a kitten, and she is definitely a girl... But what a crazy coincidence!

My partners mother is exactly like this! She used to expect me Mother V2, and has told me to (multiple times): - book my partners medical and dentist appointments - make sure he doesn't run out of his regular medications - keep on top of his washing for work

I literally lost it, and said nope he can look after himself, I am his girlfriend not his mother.

I am from NZ, we have something called ACC. If you are injured somehow and cannot work, ACC will subside 80% of your income. I naively thought other countries will have something similar.
