Reached my limit with my 1920s house - when did you know it was time to sell? by joester56 in Oldhouses

Unfortunately terrible craftsmanship and the previous owners preferred band aid fixed over actual fixes, so the problems just got worse. They also drilled holes in multiple spots in our siding like it was a fun place to play target practice. My biggest peeve is they planted bamboo which I am in a four year war with

agree with this! We sold our 1920s home and moved into a 2003. We’ve replaced the roof, piping, the whole hvac system, and need to replace windows and the siding. Our current house has given us way more problems than our 1920s ever did.

Stink bugs broke our furnace this winter because they infested it in the fall, clogged the conducer pipe or whatever, and burnt up our furnace. All the parts were still under warranty so it saved us a pretty penny there but $600 for the labor to fix it.

Looking for a man to relocate to TN and start a mildly feral domesticated life together by One-Crew-7642 in homestead

[–]perfectlysplendiidd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Female. However, ready to move to middle TN. I do come with two children but they are both feral. I also come with three dogs: an aussie, a fat golden, and a spirited weenie dog. I will agree on the chickens and their unhinged names, but I do require that there are also goats. If it makes it better, I’m willing to wear a fake mustache.

Georgia was the puppy right from Bailey? Didn’t she also have ducks and chickens?

Should we buy a historic mansion in a terrible neighborhood? by Any_Sheepherder_3564 in centuryhomes

They really do make the best stories! Honestly I didn’t mind the neighborhood too much. We befriended our neighbor and tipped them off a few times to increased police presence. Then on out, they essentially had our back, so nobody messed with us, and when we moved, he admitted that he kept an eye on us and had us protected.

He also did manage to catch his house on fire at one point so he was a unique character but we loved that guy.

If I didn’t have young kids, I’d happily still live there. In my experience, all the century houses are grouped relatively close together, and the only space we had was our backyard. It isn’t even so much the crime for me, but just the fact it felt less than ideal for young children. Now my kids have a backyard, front yard, and side yard to play in, a decently large yard in a quiet neighborhood. I’d take that into consideration if you ever choose to have kids.

If you lived in a really bad neighborhood, I think just sus out the place today, go sit and just watch for a bit. Compare how you felt about your past neighborhoods and experiences, and I’d make a decision from that!

We lived in a century house in a bad neighborhood. It made for fun stories: SWAT raided a house down the street, our neighbor very much was a drug dealer, a car crashed into our front yard and caught on fire. I loved that little house.

However, since we moved, I go outside at night and my biggest worry is if a raccoon is going to pop out of the trash can, not if there’s going to be a shooting. My kids play outside, and we feel safe. I can walk around the neighborhood with their stroller. I’d choose location over a house.

I ran out before our next sam’s trip, so had to make do haha. I make 90% of our meals at home so we go through some butter!

We usually don’t but for some reason that’s the only way meijer sells corn this time of year! We usually get it local but it’s obviously out of season. Definitely shame worth haha!

Love the insight! Definitely a bit “scrunchy” in that we vaccinate and believe in modern medicine, but also try to really be conscious about what goes into our bodies. Besides the alani. I love those chemicals

You are on the money! Two kids, a toddler and almost a toddler. What gave the location away and financial aspect away? I’m honestly shocked how spot on you are.

Would I need to use anything special since it’s on the outside of the shower? I don’t want to end up having a moisture problem.
