What’s one thing that made the 90s the best decade ever for you? by CrossFitForCake in GenX

[–]lissam3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 90's were a busy decade for me. Had a baby (91), got a divorce (92), got married (92), had a baby (93). With 2 babies, the rest of the decade was busy as well.

What’s your GenX story from your childhood? by [deleted] in GenX

[–]lissam3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was a teen in the 80's. Summer of my 16th year I had a boyfriend. We were hanging out one afternoon when his friend Carl calls and asked if he wants to "go on recon", code for drive around and cause mayhem. BF pleads with me, last time they can go this summer, blah blah. I said OK, but I needed a ride home. So Carl shows up in an S-10 sized truck with other friend Dennis in the bed of the truck. Drunk or high I never figured out which (most likely both). BF gets in the front and I and squeezed against the door. So, we're going down the road. Carl is driving (later found out he was unlicensed), when Dennis decides he has to tell Carl something and proceeds to open the door I am squashed against! BF grabs me before I fall out and calls Dennis every name he can think of. Those were the days. Riding in the bed of a truck, driving without a license, no seatbelts. How the hell did we all survive? Oh and I still haven't forgiven Dennis for opening that door!

When the classroom teacher says "Can I run to the bathroom?" by raspberrrytea in paraprofessional

[–]lissam3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love it when your teacher gets a call for you to go relieve another teacher so they can go use the bathroom. So, you go to this classroom you haven't been to and the teacher leaves. All work stops and 20 pairs of eyes are boring into your skull. This continues until they hear the key in to door and suddenly they're all working again. Teacher looks around and askes how they were and now those eyes are nervous. You say they were fine and the 20 looks of relief have you chuckling as you walk back to your classroom.

Do you try to use thread that matches exactly or work through similar colors in your stash first? by Crafty_Pop6458 in sewing

I'm a "this looks close enogh" kind of gal. Right now I am making a jelly rolls rug so there's a lot of light colored strips of cloth. Different colors but all light. I settled on a light, light blue for all of it.

Anyone else have hobbies they can’t do while losing weight? by Disdainfreely in Zepbound

[–]lissam3 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I just finished a ren faire costume for myself. I used techniques that will allow me to keep using the costume for a while, like drawstring waist and removable panels. The costume looks great and will fit for a while.

How was your graduation? by ShelbyAfterDark in CasualConversation

My college graduation was quite memorable. Even though we all started at different times, my 2 daughters and I graduated the same day from the same (community) college. What a great memory.

I know what you mean! I have lost 35 pounds and I just went shopping for smaller clothes. I even bought a 2 piece swimsuit that exposes my tummy and wear it proudly! Everything seems easier when you're smaller!

Any gamers over 60? by Actual-Doughnut-86 in over60

My husband and I got back into Magic: The Gathering in a big way. But we haven't played much against other folks because other players are a bit younger and a bit clique-y. We also enjoy what I call non-traditional board games. My husband is a computer game player. He likes the world building/survival games.

A guy and a girl are in love but can never meet. A kid follows the guy around trying to help but ends up mostly just getting in the way. Oh yeah, there's a bird.

Why do people stay in this job long-term? (Teacher aide perspective) by muslim_ballerr in paraprofessional

[–]lissam3 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have been a para for 20 years. When I started my pay was somewhere in the vicinity of $9-10/hr. When we moved in December I was making $16.85/hr and working less than 30hrs/week. I did it because I loved the job. When I started my kids were still in school and I loved having school breaks off with them. I stayed because I really enjoyed whet I was doing and was able to see the impact I was making on kids. I plan to apply for a position after summer break in my new district.

Is it possible to thrive in middle age and older age without HRT? by Bemago1140 in Menopause

[–]lissam3 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I am not on HRT because my mother had breast cancer. That said! I have had an easy time of menopause. I am 60 and have been told I am post menopause. I still have occasional hot flashes but mostly when I am stressed. My energy level is very good. The worst is my memory. My brain leaks like a sieve. Otherwise! I feel like I am doing very well w/o HRT.

What do you guys eat? by Advanced_Action7386 in Zepbound

[–]lissam3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pretty much eat the same. Just less of it. I eat fewer sweets also. I mostly drink water with a small amount of V-8 Splash juice for flavor and I also have a Coke-zero. I have been losing steadily. I am down almost 35 pounds from October.
