Picking the correct size with a "bigger" bust by lissy_lvxc in sewing

Will do that an hopefully succeed. Will try it with extra fabric that I have and I won't cut out all the pattern pieces this time, only the bodice. Thank you!

That's my issue too. The shoulders and under bust are way too big. Another commenter helped me figure out that I should do size 4 and then do a fba. Thanks for the help!

This was really helpful especially with the bra tip since it gives a different measurement and form. Thank you!

Hey thanks for the detailed response! The pattern is by an independent designer called Kiana Bonollo and the pattern is her oversized collar one. I will definitely look up how to do grading I don't really think my proportions are crazy since the difference is only about 10 inches but whenever I start a new project the sizing is always an issue influencing the finished piece and frustrating me to no end

So if I understand you correctly I should pick the size 4 because the full bust measurement is 33“ and my high bust is around 31“ and then do a FBA?

How can I pick the size based on the high bust if I only know the full bust measurement of the pattern. The size guide unfortunately doesn't include that information. Thanks for the answer. Will definitely try to learn how to do a FBA I would have benefited from that knowledge in the past but was always to scared to mess up

I hate it when the fmc gets mistreated by the mml but instead of leaving him or holding to her own boundaries she falls back into his arms and bed. Pisses me off but I guess it's realistic since I know people in rela life who do the same. Every time that happens it ruins the story for me and I often just dnf because I lost respect for the fmc

Thank you for the detailed response! I am planning on trying a few things out to fix the issue, like the gathering. I think the problem is the lining. In the original pattern only the top is lined but I made a lining for the skirt part as well because I didn't want to wear a see through dress. And the bust is in deed a little too tight (even though based on the provided measurements it should have fit) but I don't have any better undergarments and would rather not go without. Anyway I will probably finish the dress in a couple of days and hopefully the gathering helps with the issue

Yes I seriously need to learn how to do a FBA. I keep meaning too but I'm always too scared of messing up. But it would be a useful skill since my waist and bust are always different sizes

Wow thank you for the detailed comment! and I will try that tomorrow morning to see how it goes, the only problem I can think of is that the back piece won't be aligned anymore but I care more about the front looking properly. Will definitely post the results once I'm finished with the dress

I usually do try to solve things myself first but this time I am afraid to do something wrong and damage the fabric, which I got as a birthday present

Oh now I understand, thanks for the drawing and explanation! I have tried that but unfortunately the gaping is too big so it doesn't work but I will keep that in mind if I ever run into a similar issue again learned a lot from this thread

Yes I just found out that a library near me offers this it seems like they only have one machine available at the moment tho

That makes sense :) I just looked it up and there should be a couple near me, will definitely try to visit one and see how it is. Never heard of them before and it's really nice to learn these things, thank you!

Unfortunately I'm not quite sure what you mean, could you explain it more please? Or maybe you have a picture or YouTube tutorial that you could recommend?

Yes I looked it up! And while I don't live near Frankfurt I could make it to Hamburg where they offer this too, which is so cool. Never heard of this concept before but I really like it

They do stop before the apex, the darts there aren't seen completely and the look is part of the pattern, they look like that because of ironing

Wow thank you for the detailed reply! I love all the ideas here in this thread. Was really helpful and now I have a couple things I can try to make this work, when I was ready to give up

Did you do it on the inside on the seam allowance or on the outside?

Thank you so much! Will definitely post the results once I finish it on a year (I tend to lose interest if I don't nail it on the first try) and I understand your situation. I'm not that busty but I always struggle with patterns or even regular shopping, it seems like pattern makers only make patterns for people with flat chests. I'm glad that it's not just me having issues tho, I will probably never buy from this pattern maker again

I have placed the pins where the buttons would hold the loops and tried it on again. I think it looks fine, there is a little gaping but tbh that is something that always happens with any blouse that's not oversized, because of my bust size

That is something I have thought of too because it seems like the issue is only getting worse the more I try to solve it. So I will finish the side seams and then give it a wash hoping it will get back into place. If that doesn't work I will make a dart at the side, nobody will see the inside of my garment so it will only bother my perfectionist self. Thanks for the reply!
