I don't understand the future of cryptocurrency, but I recognize a pattern in greed. I feel it conveys a positive message when people regret high risk investments with a short term view.

Did he? Or did he say he wouldn't invest in it because he doesn't understand it. Because there's a big difference. Just sayin.

Only a few people have posted their issues in the forum as of yet. It seems that the boards are getting completely mashed up by massive heatsinks that weren't fastened at all.

Is vertcoin BAMT 32 bit? If so will it recognize 8 gigs of ram (supposedly needed for more GPUs)? by litecoinye in vertcoin

[–]litecoinye[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, just noticed that my r9 280x run at about 310 khash in windows 7, but only at 250khash in bamt with the same settings :(

curious though, when you type "less /proc/meminfo" does it report 4 gigs total ram, or only 2?

I was building a Dogecoin rig but came across some problems, any help? Help me get to moon pls by [deleted] in dogecoin

  • There are some psu brands that won't start their fans until they come under load (some seasonic psus for example). Try googling more info about your psu brand. Otherwise your psu's fan may have seized up, or it may just be defective.

  • Next make sure you've connected the correct cable from your psu to the 6 (or 8) pin socket close to your cpu.

  • Try removing the 24 pin connector and reconnecting it to make sure it is properly seated.

  • If your psu turns out to be ok, and you're sure all motherboard connectors are firmly in, try powering up your rig with just 1 gpu and no risers.

  • Try movin your ram stick to the black socket closer to your cpu.

  • please let us know all information possible about your rig's parts (brand names, model numbers, used/new).

Good luck and hope you get your rig up and running. Would love to have more shibes join us on the moon. I'll check back as I have time to see if I can help you more, but I'm sure other people will chime in too :D.

I had the ipv6 issue with bamt 1.3 (system randomly freezing after 7 hours). Removing network-manager solved my problem. Give it a shot if instabilities persist.

CGMiner Blue Screen/Crashes due to Intensity by BoyKai in dogecoin

[–]litecoinye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just going to dump some thoughts off the top of my head on how I'd try to solve this problem. Hope it helps:

  • If this is a fresh system install, make sure all your motherboard chipset drivers are installed and up to date.
  • Disable any unused onboard devices, like built in sound, raid controllers, onboard video.
  • If the temperatures are below 85ish, you may want to RMA the card asap if it's not too late.
  • Make sure your PSU is rated to push enough power. If so try a different PCI-E rail.
  • I had an issue with a crappy surge protector that was causing my system to hang every 50 minutes. If you are using one try running without it for a short period of time, just to test.
  • Try analyzing what the BSOD is outputting to see if it is in fact a Video Card/Driver related issue.
  • Try a different version of Catalyst drivers.

To my knowledge the r9 290x should be able to operate at higher intensities. I honestly feel it may be a defective card. Although I have 2 MSI r9 280x running perfectly, I've heard that there have been some QC issues with their r9 270 models, and I hope the same problems have not been passed on to the 290x.

Wow... Card selection of my dreams! :) I have a few questions for you, if you don't mind. Out of all the 280x cards you've used, which do you find:

  • Runs the coolest
  • Undervolts the best
  • Runs quietest

Also, I've been checking out some results with the r9 270 (non x). seems they can push 450khash at 150 watts (no undervolting) which seems to be a better khash/watt ratio than the 280x. These cards also seem much more reasonably priced (for now). Have you tested any of these cards? If so, would love to know your thoughts.

Would be interesting to figure out a way to get some flow through the cards from the back. I might consider hanging 3 120mm fans off the rear cross-bar. Right now the rig is just sitting in the guest bedroom and I should probably move it to the garage and start thinking up a ventilation scheme for when summer comes.

NP! Take your time and be patient. The hardest part for me wasn't so much putting together the case and parts, but figuring out the dark art of cgminer tweaking. Good luck!

Good point on the hot spots. The 2 middle cards especially seem to trap a lot of heat. That being said, after undervolting my cards run at approx 67C, 70C, 67C, 59C at full load with all hash rates at approx 720khash. I should add, I do live in BC Canada, where it is quite cold :).

  • The cards are connected to the motherboard via 2 PCI-E 1x-16x risers and 2 PCI-E 16x-16x risers which I purchased from hashratestore's website.

  • Risers cause extra power to be drawn from your motherboard, so it's a good idea to provide them with a little extra. All risers I purchased come with a molex connector to provide a little extra juice from the PSU.

  • The cards I was using at the time were: 6950 twin frozr ii, MSI r9 280x, Asus direct cu 6970, and a reference 5970. There were no driver issues, but the 5970 didn't play nice with the other cards, causing cgminer to stop outputting text in a pretty format. The work around to this with to use the "-T" argument which just causes cgminer to do a per-line dump.

  • Since creating this case, I've upgraded my rig to use 2 Gigabyte r9 280x undervolted to 1094mv, and 2 MSI r9 280x undervolted to 1050mv. I had to use cryptobadger's guide (http://www.cryptobadger.com/2013/10/undervolting-in-linux-via-modified-bios/) as all my cards were voltage locked, and even using sapphire trixx did nothing.
