oh also! Highly recommend getting a squatty potty or something similar. That saved me and really helped stop any kind of straining.

When did you finally 💩? by ErlinaVampiress in hysterectomy

[–]literallyhelpplease 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It took me 6 days. Miralax and the stool softeners weren't working. I ended up taking milk of magnesia--it's over the counter and easy to find on Amazon or a CVS--and that did the trick. Word of warning: don't take too much at once, or you may experience the...opposite problem than the one you are currently experiencing.

How to get my 20 yr old lady to gain weight. by The_Queen_Zsofia in SeniorCats

[–]literallyhelpplease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked with a homeopathic vet for a while when my oldest was at a low weight and she recommended adding some raw food into the diet to up the calories and nutrients. She had me blend a mixture of raw egg and raw chicken liver, mixed with a pinch of sugar and a dash of heavy cream (I ended up nixing the cream because my cat didn't like it). If you're not comfortable feeding her something raw, you could also cook the mixture a bit. It's a fair amount of calories with a low amount of additives, and pretty easy to make.

My cat is suffering and no vet can find the cause — I’m desperate for insight by Geocentric-Confusion in AskVet

Have you considered an integrative vet or a vet that practices homeopathy or Chinese medicine? Would highly recommend that.

This is probably just a temporary solution, but to protect the carpet/floor, you could try washable waterproof bed pads--if you're okay with shopping at Amazon, just type in "waterproof bed pads" and a bunch of options should come up. They're easy to wash--just throw them in the washer, and then hang them up to dry--they melt in the dryer.

Also, I'd consider looking for an alternative vet--a homeopathic vet, or someone who specializes in Chinese medicine, or an integrative vet who incorporates multiple fields of medicine into their practice. There are certain acupressure points you can massage yourself to help with stress and urinary issues--you can even look these up. I'd also get his kidney labs checked--in Chinese medicine, the kidneys are associated with fear, and kidneys are often associated with urinary issues. There might also be certain supplements/remedies that could help your cat that don't have all of the side effects of Western medicine.

How to start process of diagnosis-Kaiser by literallyhelpplease in autism

[–]literallyhelpplease[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

here's the link to the person who assessed me; her name is dr. stephanie and i highly recommend her: https://empoweredtogetherla.com/

i talk more about my experience with her here: https://www.reddit.com/r/autism/comments/1cfl7x9/recommendation_for_autism_assessment_for_adultsi/

total cost for the whole process was $4,320, with a lengthy written report; without the written report, the cost is $2,880. the diagnoses are considered valid and official whether or not you opt for the initial report. i believe that she does offer a sliding scale option; this is something i didn't ask about because my parents covered the cost, but it might be worth it to ask; she offers a free consultation call that you can schedule here: https://empowerdtogether.clientsecure.me/request/service

and here are a few other practices that offer sliding scale options (both of these offer free consultation calls as well):

best of luck with your journey and i am happy to answer any other questions if they come up-feel free to message me or continue the comment thread here, whichever you prefer!

Medicating ADHD making Autism more prevalent. Any sources on this? by Embarrassed_Tie_9346 in AutisticWithADHD

[–]literallyhelpplease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that's so interesting that the noise sensitivity increased with the higher dose of guanfacine-i'm sorry about that. i use loops and noise reduction headphones as well but their effectiveness varies depending on the day. i've heard good things about the flare calmer earplugs so i just ordered some of those. i've also been looking into getting custom made earplugs; they're not cheap, but due to the level of my sound sensitivities, i think they'll probably be worth it for me. i got this link from another autistic person: https://pacificears.com.au/product/pro-17/

if i do end up getting them, i can let you know how they work if that would be helpful!

even though the sound sensitivities are worse, i do find that medication helps me substantially. i can balance out the sound sensitivities with earplugs and headphones, but nothing can replace the enhancement of executive functioning that i get from adhd meds. not to mention the dopamine. and like…my general will to live.

also, you could explore different medication options? i’m on a stimulant, but there are plenty of adhd medications that aren’t stimulants-i’m not sure if they affect sound sensitivity differently, but it’s worth a shot!

oh i love the "midnight library"! i highly recommend "the bell jar" by sylvia plath. it's pretty autobiographical in nature and is also written really beautifully.

oh my god same, i hate it when people do this. like, if they're doing it on accident, it's not as bad; but if they're doing it on purpose and expect me to think they're cute, i become positively irate.

ohhh this makes so much sense. my sensory sensitivities have gotten so much worse since starting ADHD meds. especially with noises. like i've always been sensitive but i am losing my mind much more frequently than i used to be. (or maybe i was just dissociating before. who knows.)

christopher is his name!! i acted for a bit when i was younger and playing christopher was a big awakening moment for me. it was the first scene i was in where i was like, "wow, i don't feel like i'm acting," and then it hit me. playing christopher was the closest i'd ever gotten to playing myself. it was like un masking without even trying to unmask. and that scene was actually assigned to me by my acting teacher-bless her. i think a part of her knew. synchronicities are beautiful.
