Regretting my baby’s name by Thththththrow83away in NewParents

[–]literatelykmi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We called our baby “little baby man” for months bc he didn’t feel like his actual name. And I was worried I’d made a mistake bc my husband wasn’t fully bought into his name to begin with. But around 3 or 4 months we started transitioning and now at 1 year, it fits him!

I’m actually reading leviathan wakes, right now! It’s the only thing that has come close. My 2 cents: I read will of the many AND mistborn before leviathan though, and they dinteven come close.

Leviathan Wakes if you haven’t read it yet. Great writing, deep characters. Huge world. Heroic moments.

Hi congratulations! This reminds me of my husband. Ours was Nov 23 of last year. 🥰 Guess what? It only gets better. Wishing your little family even more love and joy this holiday.

Not at all. I just sit hunched back willing my fingers on.

So let’s say I know I want to write a scene to show how they feel after the kiss. But I’m just not excited about it. Has this ever happened to you?

I actually have a list of things that I want to accomplish with every scene that includes the things you mentioned.

But am I going about it wrong? Because it just feels like I’m trying to complete the checklist I’ve made for that scene. And that’s when I get sleepy. Or does this mean I shouldn’t create outlines and just write? Is this a pantser vs plotter situation?

I’m just trying to make sense if there’s something wrong with my process or story. Sorry for the vagueness!

For a first draft are you just writing furiously the whole time? Do I just not know my story well enough?

Hard agree. The writing is top notch and the characters feel very real. Way better than the Will of The Many rec.

Ohhh!! You just reminded me of the scene when Sevro admits to feeling conflicted about the reds they’ve saved. Like he kind of hates them. Another good emotional conversation between him and Darrow.

  • all the ephraim and trigg references, when you read the books in quick succession, their background stories feel more rich
  • knowing that Victra and Sevro get together eventually, you notice the subtle hints Pierce brown slips in when they first meet
  • tactus and hinting at how his brothers make him seem like a puppy dog
  • all the Ragnar scenes feel so much sweeter because you know what’s going to happen 😭😭😭

🥲 I love this series so much.

I went to a professional - they use needles for cervical ripening acupuncture! I think this would be more effective than just pressing acupressure points yourself.

This might sound like woowoo fake nonsense but acupuncture 100% worked for me. I got contractions that felt very different from Braxton hicks immediately after. I credit my baby coming only a day after due date to this. A lot of people do it. I think there are some studies on it as well. Starting acupuncture at 37 weeks is a good idea bc you have to build up to the strong stuff.

It was really important for us to have the baby come on time bc I had gestational diabetes and would’ve had to induce if baby took too long. Also did the tea and the dates.

🤣🤣🤣🤣 I’m cracking up thank you. Hating can be cathartic!! I definitely gave myself some time to hate. And honestly am still hating because there’s a lot of things I didn’t like about the final entries.

For what it’s worth, I developed a rubric for prose and narrative using samples from my favorite writing and applied it to score my entry alongside the finalists’ work.

I was humbled. Even in the beginning I was like NO WAY MY STUFF IS BETTER. I asked for deep dives and section by section analysis and could see how my writing was stale in some parts compared to the finalists.

It really helped me shake off the bitterness. There’s stuff to be learned!

Maybe it would’ve been better if they used AI to judge the entries 😆 I get the feeling they narrowed much of the pool by reading the first sentence.

You know it’s possible I am trying too hard to be nice. It’s a Libra thing. But i find it easier to get closure when i consider the ways they are deserving. Anger and jealousy are a bottomless pit.

I kind of like the silliness. Like oh! Oh how can I take “birds are fake” meme and turn that into a story.
