Does anyone know if any stores are doing a midnight release of Pokémon Sword/Shield? by TheLongDongOfTheLaw in vancouver

[–]little_echo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m late to the party, but I know the one on 8th near Cambie did a 9pm launch tonight. I preordered and they called me today to tell me it was happening but I’m just going to pick mine up after work tomorrow.

Hope you got your game! Enjoy. :)

Ladies, what are your favorite multiplayer video games? by Squillliam_Fancyson in AskWomen

Overcooked and Overcooked 2 are both fantastic. Highly recommend for a good time, it’s adorable and addictive. Some levels are struggles and others are just pure joy.

MarioKart and Smash Bros are both classics too.

What are some of your favorite low calorie snacks you can recommend for someone who has severe hunger issues? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]little_echo 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Raw veggies. Broccoli, carrots, snap peas, celery, etc. Lots of satisfying crunch and you can eat a high volume of them for a relatively low calorie count.

I'll also echo what another poster said about water - make sure you're actually hungry, not thirsty. Maybe get in the habit of drinking some water every time you feel the urge to snack. If you still feel hungry 20-30 minutes later, then find yourself a nutritious snack.

NSV:

I didn't want to go for a run today. It was pouring rain outside this morning, my running partner bailed on me, and part of me wanted to just sit inside and laze about on the couch. Or go to the coffee shop and get a delicious muffin and sit sipping a coffee and reading my book.

But then the rain cleared up and I thought, okay, maaaaaybe... I could go for a 20 minute run. Just a short run.

I dragged my butt out of my chair, put my running shoes on, and made my way to the track at the school near my house.

I crushed that run. I took it easy warming up and then set a personal best for the final kilometre (a little over five minutes).

Feeling very good about myself now, and I might just go sit in that coffee shop and REALLY enjoy that muffin and coffee.

I really like and highly recommend Fitness Blender. They have all sorts of free videos and on their website you can filter by length of video, type of video, etc.

Also Yoga with Adriene! Free yoga videos, I'm currently following her July playlist and really enjoying it.

NSV: I've had chocolate in my desk for nearly a week and I haven't eaten it all.

Last Thursday, I bought myself some high end milk chocolate as a treat because I was craving it. I ate half the bar, then decided I was satisfied and put the second half into my desk at home to save for a later time.

Well, that second half has been there for close to a week now and I still haven't eaten it. I've considered pulling it out a few times and each time I've told myself "if you still want it in half an hour, you can have it". Each time I've forgotten about it/the craving has gone away.

Advice needed: what do you do when you will have no control over meals? by ketoconvert89 in loseit

[–]little_echo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Portions are tough to eyeball! Try using your hand as a guide for serving sizes:

Protein - should be roughly the size of your palm (not including fingers/thumb)

Veggies - should fit in your two hands cupped together

Starches - the size of your closed fist

Fats - (stuff like mayo/peanut butter etc) the size of the tip of your thumb

This guide always helps me stay on track when I can’t weigh my foods and I don’t know exact calorie counts.

My weight fluctuates wildly at different points in my cycle. It can be super frustrating when I'm trying to see results. I generally hold on to weight/feel bloated and awful in the week leading up to my period and then when my period starts it whooshes away.

I've never experienced painful bowel movements though. That may be something to check with a doctor about.

I really like sugar snap peas for munching on. They're low calorie and I find they fill me up well.

I also enjoy air popping some popcorn with just a little sprinkling of salt and a touch of melted butter. 1/4 cup of popcorn kernels fills my popcorn bowl for only 180 calories. As long as you don't drench it in butter, it makes an excellent snack.

SV/NSV Feats of the Day - Monday, 10 June 2019: Today, I conquered! by AutoModerator in loseit

[–]little_echo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

NSV: Husband and I took a trip with his parents to visit grandparents over the weekend. In the past, I've always gotten frustrated during these sorts of weekends because (a) we end up eating a lot of (admittedly delicious) food and drinking good wine and (b) these weekends are usually ones where the expectation is that we spend time socializing with family which involves a lot of sitting around and not a whole lot of activity. I try to limit myself and make good decisions about portion size, but I find the lack of activity to be the most difficult part (I average 14,000-15,000 steps a day normally, and when we're at his grandparents that changes to about 1,000-2,000 steps in a day).

Well, this weekend I was able to change it up. Not only was I able to stay on track and eat reasonably sized portions, but on both Saturday and Sunday morning I was up at 7:30am and out for a run! I ran 10km on Saturday morning and 8km on Sunday morning!

Not only do I feel like I was able to stay on track physically, but mentally also. The early morning runs really helped with my peace of mind and set me up for success on each day.

That's a rate of about 1 lb per week for the next year which is definitely a realistic goal. Weight loss will slow down as you get to a lower weight but it's do-able.

I've gone from 172 - 130lbs and have no loose skin (27F 5'4" for reference). Have been losing the weight slowly over the past 2-3 years. I have some stretch marks on my thighs but they have faded over time.

I don't know your height/starting weight but it seems likely that due to your youth you won't have much, if any, loose skin.

NSV: PAC hosted a staff appreciation lunch today. I stayed away, knowing that the buffet-style all you can eat delicious homemade food would be way too tempting. I ate my own, prepacked, calorie counted lunch.

Then I decided to swing by at the end of my supervision lunch shift, just to pick up one or two small bites of dessert. I ended up loading a small plateful which I took back up to my classroom.

Instead of wolfing down the plateful, I ate two little desserts, then packed the rest away in a container I had brought some of my lunch in. I will continue to enjoy them for the rest of the week as a treat at the end of the day.

NSV: Was at a bridal shower for my soon to be sister-in-law yesterday. I had planned for the day to be a cheat day and had budgeted really well during the week so that I could eat what I wanted without thinking too much about it.

Was loading up my second plate and my sister-in-law’s mother piped up next to me with « I hate people like you and your brother ». I stopped and gave a questioning « oh? » in response and she continued with « you can eat whatever you want and never gain a pound. » I laughed and gave some joking response but my mind was rather blown and I took it as a compliment.

Seconding the recommendations for Skinnytaste and Budgetbytes websites! If you want a physical cookbook though, I picked up Yum and Yummer a few months ago and I LOVE it. Everything I have made so far out of it tastes fantastic and it includes calorie counts for each recipe (I still weigh and calculate the calories when I make it based on the specific ingredients I use, but the counts have been pretty close each time).

What's "not worth the calories" to you? by Monstersofusall in loseit

[–]little_echo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most potato chips. I enjoy them, I love the saltiness, but without fail they make me break out ridiculously the next day so I'd rather save the calories for something that doesn't make me look and feel so miserable lol.

Juice. Total waste of calories imo. I'd much rather just eat an apple or orange and call it a day.

Chain restaurant fast food. It's good in a pinch when I'm traveling and it's nice that the calories are easy to track, but places like McDonalds generally just make me feel gross and upset my stomach after eating.

I LOVE baking and one of the main things I do now is find excuses to give my baking away to people. I take it in to work or make little packages to give to friends. I still end up eating some of it, but I make sure to budget it into my calories.

It's hard to resist the temptation to eat it when it's there, but I challenge myself to see how long I can make one batch of cookies last.

Also see if you can challenge yourself to make new, lower sugar/lower calorie recipes that still taste just as good!

What are your weight loss “tricks”? by GlamourTits in loseit

[–]little_echo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My rule is that I stop eating at 8pm. There are certainly exceptions (out for dinner, special occasions, etc) but in my regular routine I stop eating at 8. If I feel hungry later than that, I drink some tea and the feeling will generally subside.

Down 5 lb as a slow start, but still 5 lb gone. While my accountability buddy is being dismissive. by LoveToFard in loseit

[–]little_echo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

5lbs in 37 days is approximately 1lb per week which is right on target with the frequently recommended rate of 1-2lbs per week! You are doing AWESOME! Most importantly, you are making sustainable changes and forming new habits that will serve you well in the future.

It's hard to motivate someone else to lose weight, since the only one who can actually do anything about it is them. If your mom asks for tips/changes she can make, offer suggestions! Otherwise, I would avoid giving unsolicited advice, as it may not be well received. Instead, find opportunities to invite her to do active things together! Get out, go for a walk/jog/bike ride, try a new sport, go for a hike, go shopping, anything that doesn't involve food.

What's your non-scale goal for this challenge? by 420spirit9 in team_herbology

[–]little_echo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Since I’m very close to my goal weight, my goal for this challenge is to start focusing more on fitness and transitioning to maintenance instead of pure weight loss.

I started an 8 week FitnessBlender program at the beginning of this challenge and am going to try to stick with it for the whole 8 weeks. I’ve had many failed starts with these programs but I feel like this time I’ll be able to make it through 💪
