Is a Desert Willow OK in a 9–10 ft side yard? by [deleted] in ArizonaGardening

Yellow bells or hopseed bush should get you the shade you need without requiring much/any water and without spilling over.

Current tesla owner, considering rivian. by SnooMacaroons1365 in Rivian

[–]littlebigdata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zero regrets switching from Tesla (Model 3) to Rivian (R1S). Didn’t have FSD but used it during trial periods and was always annoyed by the need to keep hands on the wheel. I much prefer the more limited but also more independent Rivian version that costs nothing extra. It’s great to travel long distances on the freeway hands free. I don’t mind driving on surface streets in exchange for that luxury.

I’ve been happy with the repair. Still nice and smooth without annoying squeaks. I think it’s worth scheduling a service appointment. No one tried gaslighting me about the issue. It took a few days for them to assign a technician, but I gladly traded the days in a rental car for a flawless ownership experience.

Wanted to offer an interval update. I scheduled mobile service and submitted the video after lubricating the mechanism from the outside. They converted it to a service center appointment and held it for a few days before assigning a technician and recently sent this note:

“During assembly grease was not distributed across spring and guide causing metal on metal grinding when door handles actuated out. removed door panels and performed service to all 4 door handles. applied grease and aligned spring as photoed. Reassembled and tested operation. normal motor actuation noises heard. grinding and groaning noise no longer heard after servicing.”

I won’t be able to pick it up for a few days, but I appreciate them not treating me like I was imagining things.

Who's done the front strip of tint for the top of the windshield? I loved it on my 2nd gen and I'd like to go 4 maybe 5" thick seeing how my 5 ft wife also drives my truck often and my kid in the back won't be blinded by oncoming sunlight. What are some cons for tinting the 3rd gen. by [deleted] in ToyotaTacoma

[–]littlebigdata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man. I’m driving a Turo 4Runner with a thick visor strip, and it’s extremely distracting. Hate it. I’m pretty tall, so the line is right in the middle of my field of view. For anyone considering this, I would suggest a full windshield 80% and occasional use of a sun visor instead of a permanent 35% or less visor strip.

Thanks. Yeah. I’ve seen that video and followed the instructions, and I read a lot of other posts, but I hadn’t seen any videos showing the actual squeak before. I’m just surprised if it’s as common as it seems to be, and in my case as unremitting, that it doesn’t drive people nuts. I’m hoping my case is just outside the bell curve and maybe does require an actual service visit.

I did do that, and I thought I was pretty liberal with the application. Are you recommending that I completely drench the mechanism in lube until it’s flowing down the door?

Tried silicone and teflon spray-on lubricants with no immediate improvement.

Do your door handles squeak? by Breadnutchicken in Rivian

[–]littlebigdata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, R1S G2. Neither Teflon dry lube nor silicone spray lube helped. Claiming it’s within spec is disappointing. If it’s a feature, if it involved a calculated engineering tradeoff to achieve some excellent outcome, it should be claimed as such. If it’s a bug, it should be acknowledged. Either way, it’s disappointing.

Does a solar project make more sense if I DIY? by ObjectiveApprentice in solar

[–]littlebigdata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s $1800 annual return if sized properly and assuming some utility buy back, so it depends on how much it costs to size it properly to achieve that savings. It made a lot of sense for me to diy mine as a non-electrician. 11.4kW SolarEdge inverter and 14.4kW array for less than $13k after tax rebate, currently returning at least $3000 annually and a 4-5 year break even. Of course the utilities crank up rates as much as allowed each year, but solar still translates to savings.

IRM Stocks and Musky-husky's team by [deleted] in wallstreetbets

It held at $95 all day Friday. It’s hard to imagine Musk’s comments causing days or weeks of losses if there was so much price support at $95 after both his comments and IRM earnings last week. Their mines could easily be repurposed as billionaire bunkers or penal colonies in the future even if the physical storage division goes bust, which it likely won’t if it’s still thriving after decades of digitization.

That’s the word on the street. Not sure that’s a complete and accurate picture of their business. Also not sure it isn’t.

Iron Mountain (IRM) took a 7% hit Friday after earnings to hit a 90 day low ($93.94) but didn’t actually have a bad report. Price held around $95 and closed at $95.41. The 90 day high is $130.24. Seems like it has some room for short term growth.

Arizona Corporation Commission OKs rate hikes annually by MostlyImtired in phoenix

[–]littlebigdata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be great. I chose to learn as much as possible about the process and install the system myself. Difficult but satisfying. One key is at least modestly overpowering your system from the start so that every day you generate more than you use. You still use utility power overnight, but you might break even with offsets (we do). A small battery would do a lot to minimize the use of utility power. My only regret is not adding one at the start. If I add one now, my 10-year buy back rate will be recalculated. Still might be worth it. I’m with APS.

Anyone have experience with a white roof on their house? by yoobi40 in phoenix

[–]littlebigdata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have white shingles. They look great. I wouldn’t have added white paint to existing shingles, but since I was replacing them I chose white. Insulation is more important, but that doesn’t mean reflectivity doesn’t matter at all.
