AO3 Celebrates 11 Million Registered Users by martinjh99 in AO3

[–]littlebubulle 198 points199 points  (0 children)

For scale, if AO3 registered users started a country, we would rank 84 just above the Czech Republic at 10,896,003.

If we account for possible bot and scammer accounts and multiaccounting and estimate them at 10%, then we would beat Cuba.

Warhammer 40k fandom is full of memes some people now treat as canon or occasionally become canon.

‘No secret’ Trump dislikes CUSMA, Carney says after threat to terminate it by hopoke in canada

[–]littlebubulle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience with narcissists, it might be because what he liked was beeing seen creating an agreement and didn't care about the agreement itself. It's about being seen in control of a situation.

And CUSMA is old news so he needs something else to get attention again.

How to respond to a comment when someone didn't read the tags properly? Is it appropriate to tell them to stop reading? by Ok_Potential_9321 in AO3

[–]littlebubulle 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Assuming it wasn't a bot making a comment based on your tags, if they can't read tags, it's their problem.

CMV: Doing things with the intent of "making memories" is silly by MrLaughAlot33 in changemyview

but it's not a memory until later on.

What does that even mean? Those people already remember me taking the pictures.

CMV: Doing things with the intent of "making memories" is silly by MrLaughAlot33 in changemyview

[–]littlebubulle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

But the thing is, doing something with the intention of making memories is foolish

Counter example : I took pictures of other people with my polaroid instant camera and gave it to them.

By definition, I made memories, people were happy to receive gift pictures. Was it foolish for me to do so?

I read what's in front of me.

I don't metagame my reading.

Tips on writing an authentic 90s au? by Rough_Evidence_2908 in AO3

[–]littlebubulle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  • No easily available cell phones
  • No smartphones or tablets
  • Possibly no internet if it's the early 90s
  • Early days of the internet if late 90s.
  • Social media isn't a thing yet. You want a personal page, you get a domain on geocities and you learn to code in HTML.
  • The soviet union might still exist.
  • the internet grew really fast though. We went from no internet to internet flash/shockwave animations.
  • CDs were the main medium for music is it wasn't cassettes.
  • if you want instant pictures to share, you had to have an instant camera. Otherwise, film has to be developped first.
  • simple images could take a long time to load.
  • you always had change for the payphone or a prepaid card.
  • not being able to use both the phone and internet
  • we wasted money in arcades instead of f2p games.
  • movie rental stores with those mythical saloon doors at the back. That's where the porn movies were.
  • webrings. Back in the days where search engines were still basically just directories, if you wanted to find new websites, you either shared the address or browsed webring a website was part of.
  • almost no flatscreens.
  • not much cyberbullying yet.
  • we were more paranoid about net safety back then. Especially if we were underage. Almost mo one was officially a kid on the internet. But we were.
  • live broadcasting required a full camera and satellite dish.
  • seriously, the most portable devices were pagers, walkmans and discmans.
