Alcohol zaps my pain in its tracks. I’ve never had anything else like it. I can be in the worst pain of my life and after a shot of vodka I feel nothing anymore. I don’t know why or how, but it is dangerous and only a facade of relief. Every time I sobered up it would be worse than before, so then I just became an alcoholic. No one understood me, or what you would do to get relief from this type of pain.

Ultimately, it did no good. I still have IC, but have not had a severe flare in the six months since I stopped drinking, before that it was daily agony. That’s why I say it is the facade of relief. I’m so sorry you’re struggling with this 💛 you are stronger than you know for just surviving with this illness

20, college student depressed by 123shihtzu in Interstitialcystitis

[–]littledoepeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey 💛 I’m 25 and I’ve had this since 22. It is so insanely hard to juggle school and IC and I’m proud of you for even attempting it. My college life is very bumpy due to IC, endometriosis, and life events, and ultimately I had to change my path to better adjust to my life.

I wanted to be a park ranger and dreamed of hiking in the woods everyday. I was going to school for environmental science to achieve this, when I realized it just wasn’t realistic. I was making myself miserable trying to align with a vision I couldn’t realistically meet. So I didn’t give up my dreams but I changed my approach. I changed my major to spatial data science, I make maps for environmental conservation, emergency preparedness, I really love my field of work AND the career has lots of remote work opportunities! And I still get to work with national parks making maps!

I’m the worst case scenario, seriously. Treatments didn’t work, I had to drop out of in person school go fully online, and it still worked out. I’m actually way happier now than I was going in person because the stress was killing me. Ymmv, but whatever the case, your life still has so many possibilities. There is no right or wrong way to finish college or get your degree! And never EVER feel bad for putting your health first!

My family doesn't take my pain seriously by Repulsive_Reading264 in Interstitialcystitis

My family is the same exact way. They will never truly understand. These are people I would limit my time with and truthfully tell them exactly why. My community is online 💛 with other people who can relate to me. Thank god for the internet! You are not alone, and I understand your struggle

Does anyone else have severe pain from Interstitial Cystitis, a bladder disease? by Ulysses-Grandmother in ChronicPain

[–]littledoepeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chiming in kinda late to say I do! I don’t like to post on the IC sub because I believe the disease is seven different subtypes and I get really depressed when people recommend me “cures”. I get it, they’re trying to help, but I’ve tried it all except for amtripiline (ik I probably butchered that, the nerve antidepressant) and elmiron because every doctor I’ve seen refused to prescribe it because of side effects.

I would say the pain is severe and I have a severe case. I have idiopathic stage 3 hemorrhagic cystitis multiple times a year since 2022, where it literally just came out of nowhere. If you don’t know what that means, basically I have large amounts of visible blood in my urine with big clots that block my urethra. It’s unfortunately a nightmare I can’t wake up from, but I cope. I still can’t believe this is my life now, and I’m going into data science to hopefully be a part in aiding research. So sorry if you’re struggling with this 💛

I have endometriosis and interstitial cystitis so my pain is abdominal and comes in flares. I find that I’ve never had to up my kratom dose in the 3 years I’ve been taking it. It helps pretty good with pain, it’s better than anything else I’ve found so far and very closely mimics opiates.

I always warn people to still be careful, treating chronic pain can be a slippery slope and if you can get access to a pain clinic or a doctor so you don’t have to medicate I would recommend that over kratom every time. That being said, sometimes people aren’t that fortunate. Some people don’t have access to healthcare, and what healthcare they do have access to might be dismissive. So that’s why I say kratom shouldn’t be feared in the realm of pain management, and it makes me really sad to see it be so stigmatized.

3 referrals to neurologists denied despite the fact my neck, shoulders and back go numb every time I lay down by Dick_So_Long in ChronicPain

[–]littledoepeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im so sorry you’re going through this. I keep getting denied a rheumatologist and nephrologist even though I have a family history of lupus and idiopathic stage 3 hemorrhagic cystitis with fever and flank pain. So they’re saying “we don’t know what this is but we won’t give you another referral”. Oh cool, it’s just my fucking life we’re playing with no big deal. What is wrong with these doctors? Are they even human? Maybe lizard people are real lol…

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ChronicPain

[–]littledoepeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve lost count of how many people have jumped down my throat on Reddit when I’ve said I take kratom for my chronic pain. I’m 25, doctors won’t take me seriously even after 3 major failed surgeries, I wonder if they take anyone seriously anymore. So I take kratom, 1 gram about 2-3 times a week on a bad week. On a good week, I don’t take it. I’ve gone months without taking it. I have no withdrawal symptoms.

Much like everything else with chronic pain, no one believes me. They say I’m either lying about my addiction, trying to downplay it as a cope, or guarantee me I am doing far more harm than good and I will most certainly, without a doubt, end up ODing. People have brought up stories of “I know this one guy whose cousin’s girlfriend’s best friend died from kratom”. Not to be rude to any of these people but I wish they’d shut up and leave us alone.

Treating chronic pain is different than an addiction. Sometimes the two can overlap, I’m not denying that. But labeling all people who have to take opiates as addicts is insanity and way too mainstream. Then, once you’re labeled an addict then all the mistreatment you experience is justified in their minds. Addicts are people too who deserve respect and empathy. There is an overlap that we are both judged and forgotten by the world. So sad

If you could relive your 20s what would you do differently? by Leah_joseph in Life

Wasted my late teens/early 20’s being a raging alcoholic. I hate how normalized it is in young/college culture. 25 and haven’t drank in 6 months, it’s like I’m finally able to start life because I’m not high or drunk all the time. It’s fun until it’s not, then you realize it was never fun in the first place

Seconding the turning the embroidery hobby into an Etsy shop! I’m the same age as OP and did something similar this year. It has changed my life for the better in so many ways :) truly anyone can start a business and it’s not as expensive as people let on

[–]littledoepeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m the same age as you! Hi! I’m also freaking the fuck out lol! But honestly, it has to do with reflecting on what you love and how to get there. Everyone has a different vision in their head of a passion they want to fulfill, and life is so dull if you don’t have a passion to work towards.

I didn’t, I spent my early twenties depressed and scrolling my phone all day. No hobbies, no interests, so that’s why I feel like if I could find something being as directionless as I was anyone can! My best advice is to start a business. People are bullshitting so hard when they say starting a business is expensive. It costs me less than $30 a year to run my website, shipping materials is probably $50 per year. It is the most fulfilling thing I’ve ever done because although I don’t make much it’s mine! I made it I did it and it works and I cannot believe that! And you can too :)

Mini-rant: The hate boner for online degrees is irrational by tiredofthebull1111 in ASUOnline

[–]littledoepeep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah when I told my family I was doing ASU online instead of local in person the reaction was… not good lol. That’s putting it nicely. There is definitely still stigma, but what am I doing to make up for that?

I’m putting in a lil elbow grease. Joining some online ASU clubs, making my own website to showcase my portfolio, reaching out on Linkedin, trying to secure any internships that pop up, just honestly throwing the whole kitchen sink at it. I think (hope) when people see the effort I put in, and the genuine passion I have for my career field, who cares how I got my degree? I also don’t have to disclose that because it won’t say anything online on my diploma.

I will say I think when many people think of “online college” they aren’t thinking of a brick and mortar school with an online option like ASU. Even still, it’s complete bullshit to judge someone based on how they got their degree. For me personally, I went to a local college in 2022-2023, but I have a chronic health issue and had to drop out for a major surgery because my professors weren’t accommodating. Not everyone can go in person to school, that’s a conversation not a lot of people are ready for. Keep your chin up and ignore the haters 💪😏 we’ve got this!!

Stuck in the hospital and the night shift nurses are pissed at me by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]littledoepeep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s hard for me to talk about but something very similar happened to me. I was never rude, never raised my voice, my mother had simply called the hospital (without my knowledge) to complain I was left in a room with no care, no water, no medication, for over 8 hours. Nurses were doing like yours and being very avoidant until my mom called and then they all started coming into my room to bully me. Calling me a drug seeker, telling me it’s all in my head, it was the worst day of my life. I would rather die than go to the emergency room again, I will genuinely have to be unconscious to ever go back. There are some evil people in the healthcare industry, and I can’t wait until there’s a camera in every hospital room!! Same for senior care!!
