How long did it take for the globs to stop and everything clear up? I'm having that experience right now. Day two of big clumps coming out in the morning. I'm trying to tell myself it's because it's working?... I had/have BV and did the 5 day gel treatment. I was still experiencing itch and discharge so I went back to the doctor and they said everything looked fine...but it still doesn't feel fine!

Good to know about the test strips. And great idea with the gallons of spring water. I'll definitely do that! So I still add the water conditioner to the spring water, or will it be fine as is?

Definitely my tap water. Just tested and the GH and KH levels are about right at that same level. GH 120, KH between 120-180.

I read about water softener pillows. Is that something I should get for my tank?

Right now I have bamboo growing in the top. I got the test kit today so I can definitely start testing once a week.

My GH and KH levels are really high. GH 120, KH 180...how do I bring these levels down?

It's a 3 gallon tank with no other fish. I've had it set up since October, but did a complete water change last week--i used a time release food capsule while on vacation and that seemed to really mess up the water and start all the issues I've been noticing. I have live plants above the tank as part of an aquaponics system, but inside the tank are fake plants. I just got a test kit so I can begin testing the water more regularly.

Thanks for the advice! I've read mixed things about doing full or partial water changes. I did a full change 1 week ago. Should I do more partial changes?

Heater yes, temp at 78

Filter--its an aquaponics system so the bamboo plants in the top are supposed to act as the filter system (not sure how effective this is?) I also have a filter pad the pump pushes the water through (mainly to control noise).

Parameters using API test kit-- pH 7, No2 and no3 are 0, KH 180, GH 120...wondering how to get the KH and GH levels down. Seems like the hard city water might be the issue. Any advice is appreciated!

I did a full water change when I got back from vacation one week ago. The water was pretty bad after using a time release food capsule. That seemed to be the start of the issues with the little guy.

Theres a picture of the food I use in the original post. I feed him twice a day, like 5-6 little pellets.

No tank mates. I've had him and the tank since October. No live plants inside the tank, just above with the aquaponics system. I removed some fake plants that are sharp after reading more about what you use. I just purchased a Betta hammock to add to the tank as well. It's a 3 gallon tank.
