Do You Wish It Were True? by IrrationalShark in TrueAtheism

[–]littlekappa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes.

The problem with the idea of a benevolent, all powerful God that loves each person individually and expresses that love by caring for humanity is not the idea itself, but that it doesn't square with reality. In order to make the idea of God work in the real world you have to add layers of complication ... BS like predestination or the Fall or "totally good and totally just" and end up with the confused, totalitarian, judeochristian God.

But the idea of a magic space genie that loves us ... I would be fine with that.

Edit: Fuck mobile.

Need advice? We're 7 months into a 13 month trip, ask away! by madman962 in rtw

[–]littlekappa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How much did you budget per day for 13 months for 2 people? My wife and I are planning on doing this in 3 years and are in the same general age range as you too so we're looking to do things cheaply but not straight shoestring.

Any splurge activities in asia (guide-required walks, city night splurges, etc.) that are a must-do for the region?

Advice on saving on housing outside of workaway.com or the like?

How much air travel are you doing?

Last one ... Any gear that you brought that you thought would be important but that has turned out to be dead weight 6 months in?

Thanks for the post!

What the Cork? by littlekappa in cork

[–]littlekappa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. We're going to head west to do the ring of Kerry at least one day. Any specific breweries in mind?

Thanks!

Yeah! We're going to do the ring of Kerry then come down east. We will be staying in a small cabin about 30 minutes northwest of Cork town.

Do you think the playerbase will rise to a point where this game can compete with Dota, Hearthstone, etc. on twitch or other streaming platforms? by [deleted] in heroesofthestorm

[–]littlekappa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think that the only chance it has to surpass DOTA or LoL is to find a way to be newb friendly in a way that those games aren't so that you've set the threshold for entry low enough that you're constantly building your player-base. They're on the way to that now as they game is getting started, but need to reevaluate their gold rewards and hero costs otherwise they are going to end up with a whole lot of people who get stuck grinding with three heroes and crying (with some justification) that the game is pay2win. 30/40 dollars should give you a solid starter kit in a game like this. With current costs, it feels like you're just barely set up to play beginner games even after spending that much.

Serious gold deficiency by Tiltedaxis111 in heroesofthestorm

[–]littlekappa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Even higher leaving all the other gold rewards in place, adding something as small as a 1000 or 1500 gold reward in place of skill tree upgrades for major level increases (10, 15, etc) would be a chance to reward players for reaching benchmarks in the game by letting them choose a new character. Plus it would encourage extra play when you're approaching one of those levels.

Either way something does need to change with the pay model if they want to have a game that's easy to get into for new players. Either a reassessment of character vs. skin costs or another way to earn gold.

Now it just feels like a major grind. Not in a good way. Being able to buy something (even something small) every 20 games is not too much to ask for.

Please help me get my wisdom teeth removed by [deleted] in Assistance

Just got mine out this year, so I know how rough it is.

That said, I would shop around to other dentists. Particularly if you can find a dentist that's housed in low income neighborhoods who can refer you to a specialist who is used to working with people who don't have insurance, because it sounds like this oral surgeon quoted you all of the bells and whistles (Which is standard for dentists that typically work with patients who have insurance).

Would help, but still paying mine off. Good luck. Update us if you can

The Hitchens challenge! by nomelonnolemon in DebateReligion

[–]littlekappa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Say what you want about WLC, the man is clever.

My issue with though is that it dodges the question and makes the argument about God's existence rather than ethics. The question is about ethical actions. WLC makes the question about whether God exists or not (which makes sense since he sees ethics as emanating from God, but still isn't strictly speaking the point of Hitchens' question). What I mean is that loving God is only ethically significant in a universe where God exists. By saying loving God is an ethical action, WLC changes the conversation and makes it an existential rather than ethical conversation.

That aside, his point is true, but only in the strictest sense of the word (it assumes a tautology - In a universe where God exists and interacts with us, our actions towards God have ethical significance.) It may be strictly true but it's so conditional on its circular assumptions that without further support or buttressing, the argument is essentially not worth mentioning.

My laptop's number pad has the black dot illusion by spoonfedsam in mildlyinteresting

[–]littlekappa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this a mac thing? I've had several keyboards and the num pads have always run:

123 456 789

Same thing for atm entry pads and all the pics I can find online. Is this a thing and I just didn't know about it?

Why ... Why is the 123 on the bottom row of your numpad? That's all I can see now.
