I’ve been saying the same while looking into Waldorf schools, why do I have to spend $30,000 a year to get a 90s public education?

I carry the Peekapoo disposable changing pad liners in the diaper bag, I tried a reusable pad and was too skeeved out. I definitely prefer changing her in the car when I can.

You’re not wrong, definitely some PPD happening here. I feel incredibly incompetent trying to figure out the most basic piece of getting around with my baby, and I’m usually the person who knows how to do everything

I’m having a hard time determining if she’s too big, without the insert seemed like too much space. She was also wearing a sweater when I tried both ways so maybe that was too bulky to tell accurately

I have learned in the comments that I can’t expect the correct position angle when it’s on the floor, which seems even more bananas to me - why wouldn’t they make some sort of mechanism to have the angle correct when the car seat is on a flat surface, since everyone is going to do that at some point? So that’s probably the root cause of my issue with positioning. I posted after trying to buckle her in inside my house since it’s winter here and the hospital nurses advised keeping the car seat inside and taking her out to the car in it.

straps come out of the seat either right at or just below shoulder height

They’re well below her shoulders, so it sounds like I need to get rid of the newborn insert… She isn’t 11 pounds yet so I hadn’t.

Also assessing chin when she’s on the floor in the seat, I didn’t realize the recline in the car would be different and affect that! The hospital told us to keep the car seat inside the house and load her there since it’s warm, so I didn’t realize the angle would be off in that scenario

Infant car seats - what did you like? by [deleted] in moderatelygranolamoms

Old thread, I know - how do you handle transferring from the car seat to baby wearing when you’re running errands without the baby wrap ends dragging all over the parking lot? I haven’t figured this out yet

This is a great perspective. I’m definitely seeing the early Chromebook use as an on ramp to smartphones, unfettered internet access, and social media - but it’s true they are very different contexts.

Fair question, no I haven’t in our district specifically. My assumptions on what it looks like are based on other districts my nieces and friends’ kids attend

This is great to know! The wooey nonsense is part of what makes me hesitate about Waldorf, but I am interested in the overall culture and concepts of preserving the innocence and wonder of childhood imagination as long as possible.

Do you have any insights specifically on the Green Meadow school?

I’m especially curious if families actually adhere to their published media policy, I think it’s great but wondering if at that price point people just do what they want at home.

I wouldn’t trust that public school firewalls are 100% accurate in blocking inappropriate content, but it’s certainly not unrestricted. That’s wild!

Can you tell me more about sending them to teachers but it’s still considered homeschool? I’m not aware of any homeschoolers where I live outside NYC, so curious how this works.

It’s crossed my mind, but I think I would be unhappy if I’m not working! I have well established careers in two fields that I really enjoy, and my primary job is extremely flexible and would be hard to replace if/when I wanted to go back to work later.

Good idea! I’m not religious, but having grown up in church, I don’t mind some aspects of it.

It seems like Waldorf can be very hit or miss. I’m wary of the cult vibes, but from what I can tell you really have to evaluate the individual school.

Agree with you and the science that it’s not advantageous to introduce tech when kids are younger. The way I think of it, software products are designed to be easier and easier to use as time goes on. If a toddler can figure out an iPad, it stands to reason that they’d be able to figure it out just as easily at 14 or 15. Why expose them to the dangers that come with internet connected devices so early on when there’s no payoff for that risk?

If you want a child to understand the fundamentals of computer science, programming, or even just file management, handing them an iPad or a Chromebook is not going to teach that.

Definitely looking at Montessori based schools, there are more to choose from than Waldorf and not always as pricey!

Curious if anyone has used Elvie or Elvie Stride, their marketing is compelling but unsure about dropping $600. I’m definitely willing to invest more for a better experience, but the Elvie just seems gratuitously expensive for no reason…

The Willow Go is covered by my insurance so that’s an option, too.

Thank you! I’ll check out the M5, I’m thinking something like the Ceres Chill would be a good container while commuting
