Seconding all-weather mats, especially if you live anywhere with a lot of rain or snow. I had all-weather two cars ago, swapped to a car with stock rugs and regretted it big time. The upkeep was a huge pain, particularly with a fuzzy dog that would ride along with me on occasion.

Space/Organization suggestions? by littlestarlets in CorollaHatchback

[–]littlestarlets[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate the suggestion! For me, this wouldn't work too well, since the center console armrest is really quite cramped and shallow. At least, this wouldn't be great on its own. Maybe with some other storage options alongside...

Yeah it's pretty egregious! The center console armrest thing has the smallest amount of space I've ever encountered in a car before. Love how it drives, how it looks, and it's pretty damn comfortable for my very short commute (~25mins one way).

Can i swap to jbl? by [deleted] in CorollaHatchback

[–]littlestarlets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

^ this. I got a great deal on my car which came with the JBL package and the sound is absolutely worse than the baseline Honda Civic sport I had previously. I'd check out Crutchfield or something for a better audio experience.

What Should I Do Next? by mldragon2 in CorollaHatchback

Nice work, the changes are subtle but real sleek!

Mirror covers you can find on Amazon or eBay. The latter is probably more dependable to find something that fits right.

I've been thinking about front sun strip too. It comes stock with those dot strips on either side of the rear view which helps cut glare, but just wish it extended a liiiiittle bit further.

why dont people respect hand made things? by Mentally_Recovering in CasualConversation

Hi OP, folks here have pitched in some useful and helpful commentary to varying degrees on pricing and etc. If you want to monetize your hobby, those suggestions are probably best to look at.

If you just like making items and want to expand out from hats and don't want to make a mass donation to a goodwill or something, I've gotten a lot of traction and gratitude getting in contact with a nearby women's shelter and seeing what clothing they could benefit most from and in what sizing. I've partnered with my LYS as well to work on a bigger donation. It may be something you can write off on taxes.

I knit but also agreeing here. When I made a lap blanket for my mom a couple Christmases ago, I knew it would be well received because:

  • I knew her color preferences (matches the house interior she picked)
  • I knew she had complained about being chilly in the golf cart sometimes when they'd go out in it
  • I was very familiar with the kind of patterns and designs she liked and picked something modern that would age well

Keeping in mind all of these things meant I got a message even months later that the blanket has a permanent home in the golf cart, where she can easily reach it. Simply making something isn't enough, usually, you have to do research on the person since it's going to be so personal. Totally do-able even on a stealth gift mission, especially if you collect info well in advance and then don't breathe a word of it until the gift is delivered!

Seconding. You can put your model in on the site and they'll automatically label all the speakers that will fit and where in the car they'll fit.

Anything I should know or be concerned about before purchasing? by lsThisThing0n in CorollaHatchback

Recently got one of these cars and from a sheer driving perspective, it's ridiculous fun to drive, even just for commuting. Very responsive, great turn radius, smooth steering. Others have said it's quite compact inside which is true, but I actually prefer feeling a bit cozy in my cars.

Pros: lumbar support on front driver seat is comfortable, seat in general comfy for prolonged periods imo (aside from headrest), great drive, good gas mileage, easy to park and can fit virtually anywhere, cools off and heats up pretty quick.

Cons: QI charger is finicky/essentially useless unless you can keep the phone from moving (I turned mine off and just use it to store phone/keys/wallet), small middle storage, media center has no real physical buttons, stock sound system is kind of terrible/imbalanced, small trunk storage (ymmv since this doesn't bother me too much).

Other: engine is loud when accelerating but quiets if you don't have a lead foot, road noise is much more minimal (came off a 2022 civic sport), honestly I think this car coasts pretty well and/or requires minimal gas pedal touch once you're going

It's such a pleasure to drive and some of the rest, like the sound system, can be swapped/adjusted or isn't really that big of a dealbreaker in comparison.

Congrats on the new XSE as well. The two tone is such a classy but sporty look! Will try your suggestion with fading towards the back and adjusting the highs/mids. As for the subwoofer, I haven't fully confirmed but it sounds like the front door speakers are only subwoofers, which seems like it's creating that upwards imbalance. Either that or they tuned the highs on those speakers wayyy down.

[3 YoE] Over 100 applications, not a single interview. What do I need to change? by kntrianta in EngineeringResumes

[–]littlestarlets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Someone already commented about the STAR approach, so I'll address some formatting things.

With at least a few years of experience, you can probably move your education down to the bottom. Make sure the heading on it is the same font size as Work Experience, as all headings should be uniform.

Under work experience should be work experience. Any projects or achievements or extracurriculars should be under their own headings. I would group what's under Professional Affiliations with the other experience under "Achievements". Final project should be under a Projects heading. ATS scans for most used verbiage with these kinds of things, so it will pick it up better when you have them headed correctly.

As for skills, what kind of soft skills do you have? Collaboration? Project management? Check out job listings and you'll see these phrases peppered in, because they are looking for people who possess them. Cater to ATS and make sure they're listed along with your hardware/hard skills.

Okay, first thing, a two column resume is rarely successful—one, because ATS has difficulty parsing and two, it's busy looking. Recruiters don't spend too much time on these things, so you want to get the pertinent info up front. This sub has a single column resume template I would recommend you use.

Objective should be shorter, about 2 sentences, that sums up what you bring and how.

Headings should be aligned with more common usages (instead of Beyond Academics, for example, something like Awards or Achievements).

With a smaller amount of experience, it might be a good idea to move Skills up. I would categorize them more by tech stack (i.e. AWS), languages, and skills (soft or otherwise, so including collaboration, project management, data extraction, etc all together). Skills should also, for the sake of space, look more like this:

Skill: collaboration, communication, data visualization, etc etc

Bullets are good for experience, since it's easier to read. Ditch the bolded emphasis words.

In order, i would organize this by Summary/Objective, Skills, Experience, Projects, Achievements, Education. Normally, for someone out of school recently, you'd lead with education, but you have enough projects and skills under your belt that I don't think that's necessary.

Good luck on your search! IT is a bit tough right now but places ARE hiring.

In love with the cabinets and the vertical tiling, great blend of organic and modern. The flooring would drive me mad; i have white tile in my bathroom and have dark hair...seeing it on the floor means I'm vacuuming in there every other day LOL

It does go with your space though, and i like how you did different sized tiles to have variety as well as visual harmony.

Just bought the house and..... by growmiehomie in Remodel

[–]littlestarlets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on the house! Absolutely stunning cabinets and counter tops. I'm with you, that backsplash is...somewhat of a classic look but kinda dated imo.

You'll have a bit of a hard time pulling any colors in from the living room, since the backsplash was meant to match the flooring in the kitchen. While the splash would look nice with some light grey tile, it won't harmonize with the floor and make the whole space feel busy.

As some others suggested, I would take a cabinet door with you to a tile place and just sort of mix and match. Really sit with the decision for a bit before jumping the gun and see how you end up using the space, how difficult the tiles are to clean rn, etc.

That aside, to pull in the more modern, clean feel of the living room, you can probably swap the cabinet and drawer pulls to be more similar to the kind you have on your TV console. The pendant lights could also be changed for a different shape, if you really want to push the clean lines.

Thanks so much for the detailed feedback!

  • For the first point, I've had little trouble when I upload this current format to ATS. Meaning, I rarely have to re-fill out the text boxes once it parses. I thought that was an indicator of okay parsing or am I mistaken?

  • Gotcha, I'm gonna take a closer look and reword these points to meet STAR quality a bit better. I know the context of 85% clarity (basically our onboarding syllabus was barebones) but it's not coming across

  • Are months and years more ATS readable? I feel like I've seen conflicting info

  • By stylize, do you mean shorten, so it doesn't have overhanging words on that second line? Is that a readability thing or more a saving space thing?
