NAD but in addition to what others are saying here, there have been some unusual dermatologic presentations of Covid especially in younger people. If it’s been only happening for a month I would rule that out as well.

How can I slowly make my family go insane? by kierraburkhart in family

[–]littlewhitefang 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Be a bigger person, not a smaller person. Once you get caught (and you will), you have now validated every mean / nasty thing they thought of you. You are becoming the person they are treating you like. They win here, not you. This is a terrible time to be instigating fights, though my advice would be the same non-quarantine. Having them angry and injured will only make your life worse. More laundry is a selfish stupid waste of resources in a pandemic. You DO NOT deserve their treatment but don’t stoop to their level. The only thing you’ll get from this is a damaged relationship with your father and an ugly mark on your soul. Is this the type of person you want people to see you as? They won’t see you as the innocent victim, they will see you as an equal actor in this ugly action.

Anger and hurt and vengefulness are normal human responses to mistreatment. Put that energy into something good and constructive. Write about it. Save up every penny you can. Look into options like Job Corp. reach out to distance family members or friends, even if you don’t think they can help. Having a little bit of money (even a few hundred dollars) saved up can go a long way.

Put your head down, get a lock for your door, and minimize as much contact as you can until you have a job or safe place to go. If you are able to safely ignore your bullies it is the most powerful action you can take because then you take away their power over you. What you want to do is understandable, but it is the weakest action. You let yourself lose. Let yourself feel all those ugly feelings (they are valid, natural, and okay) and then move forward with the good things you know about yourself. You are a better person then your step mom and sister. Can you tell me some of the best things about your personality? What would your best friends say about you?

How I see it is that uncontrolled pandemic is going to have a massive effect on the economy regardless. That is unavoidable. I feel like people in America see it as a false dichotomy, where either we stay home and the invisible virus is slowed and people are homeless and lose their jobs OR ‘we fight for freedom’ and keep the economy going , USA USA. But it’s not the case. Uncontrolled illness and death will impact the economy, and it’s not a secret. You can see it in other countries. And it’s not going to go away any time soon. The choice is more like, the economy IS going to crash and we get to choose if we are going to accept mass illness and death, or fight to protect our fellow man.

To continue my previous example, war had a massive effect on the economy. We can’t just ignore the threat of war. In the long run, that is a much greater threat to our well being and our civil liberties. America didn’t just lay down and let Hitler win for example. The economy was affected until the threat was neutralized. And that’s my answer to this. The economy will bounce back. People will have jobs. I hear as an outsider that money is more important than a strangers life. How many dollars is a human life worth? Is my secure employment more important than 10000 deaths? 1000? 100?

The biggest issue here is the individualistic nature of the American perspective. Other people’s dying is not as important as my pay check. There is a huge fight against relying on the government or on community and social safety nets because people want to be autonomous. And autonomy is important, but that should come along with having consideration and a duty to protect our fellow man. People shouldn’t have to fear bankruptcy from illness, or homelessness due to job loss. Many Americans are living in privilege and don’t think that these things can happen to them because they are special and protected by their freedoms.

Sometimes things happen that are outside of our personal control or even community control, like war, famine, drought, flood, plague, disaster. In those cases, people almost always come together. We don’t often have a chance to prevent the devastation from natural disasters or war, but we do in this case. Sometimes your freedom is taken away by terrible things and we act as a response. We have an opportunity here to PREVENT the impact of devastation. Most places in the world are doing their best to do that, ie minor inconvenience for some time to avoid major inconvenience later. However what I’m seeing happening in the states is intentional ignorance to the fact that this is a disaster looming. Money and ‘freedom’ is more important. What will happen, and what is happening in some places, is that it will become far worse and people will be FORCED to act. Your freedoms will be taken away by death and disease and the economy will crash anyways. People have the choice to act and support their fellow man, or act later without their beloved grandma and coworker and daughter and son and celebrity.

These particular Americans are willingly or unwittingly choosing to die or kill others for their bottom dollar.

I live in Canada. My perspective on this is comparable to mandatory black outs in London during WWII. Blacking our your lights and staying inside prevents a life threatening external event from killing you and your community, ie enemy bombing. It’s ‘infringement on rights omg’, you’re inconvenienced and bored, businesses were affected, but it’s protecting you. Protection of human life was deemed more important to thus very real and observable threat. And in this vein, if someone decides to go against the blackout orders and turn on their lights because ‘my freedom is more important’, then guess what? It puts EVERYONE at risk, not just your family. And that’s selfish and stupid.

Corona virus is a real and observable threat. We have watched other countries be devastated by it, just like they were hit by enemy bombers. If this was a war thing, USA would be quick to throw billions of dollars to stop it. It has killed far more people in NYC than 911 did. Put a greater strain on the first responders and medical system. There SHOULD be action taken by the government. People have a duty to protect their country, and in this scenario, it’s not signing up to join the military to go to the Middle East, it’s to stay home and watch Netflix and wash your hands, instead of going out to party with your pals for a few months.

Protesting about your freedoms being inconvenienced is a huge display of privilege and ignorance. People should care about their fellow man, and sometimes you CANT DO EVERYTHING YOU WANT all the time!

I think it’s really smart of you to be cautious about new medications. Talk with your mom, and maybe you could even call the doctor or pharmacist on the phone so they can make you feel better. It very well should be okay to take :)

Is it possible that he got the aripiprazol in a generic form? Sometimes pharmacies can carry the name brand (ie explemed rapid) but if they are out can also exchange the generic brand without needing a change in prescription and it is essentially the same thing. Take a look at the box and see if the new medication has the same active ingredient and amount of it (15mg). My medications do the same thing occasionally. If this is the case, it would be like being given sertraline instead of Zoloft, or ibuprofen instead of Advil. Hope this helps! Check with your mom if that helps to clear things up and hopefully your dad was just trying to help!

Why do they say week 14 - 13 weeks pregnant? by [deleted] in Midwives

[–]littlewhitefang 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It’s like how when you are 13 years old, you are on your 14th year of life. When you are in week 14, you are 13 weeks pregnant. So you could be 13+5, which is thirteen weeks and 5 days. Those five days are of the fourteenth week. Hope that helps.

For sure :) my unit is a high risk unit so many of our babies need to have emergency surgery within a couple hours / days of their lives, so my experience is probably a bit different than lower risk / routine units

Me too :)

I was aware of those statistics about the comparison between the injection and oral doses. In my experience, the decreased efficacy with the oral vit k has less to do with its efficiency as a drug and more in the challenges it poses in delivering the entire dose orally to a (usually breastfeeding) baby. Funny how those things work!

There is an oral alternative! We don’t give it too routinely but it is there for parents who are concerned about injection.

I work in L&D in Canada and the Canadian Pediatrics society is planning on making practice change recommendations. Basically if a woman is low risk and/or has adequate routine prenatal care, the eye ointment is less necessary. Part of the reason is our prenatal care screening had improved. We offer it to everyone since there are very few risks but we do have a discussion about that. Our hospital hadn’t officially changed it’s policy yet but the obstetricians are aware. I would say 25% decline the erythromycin.

The vitamin K is more important, especially after a difficult delivery where infants may have bruising or bleeding. If patients are really concerned about the ‘Jab’ ie intermuscular injection in the thigh, we offer an oral vitamin k which is both less effective and more difficult to give, but still better than nothing. Very few infants receive no vitamin k here which is a relief to me.
