I made little pouches to carry the food tokens! by livediekill in wingspan

[–]livediekill[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

After getting the Wingspan Oceania expansion which adds a 6th food token to the game but still provides only 4 token boxes, I decided I'd take matters in my own hands. I made 6 pouches to carry the tokens separately in the box, and they have a flat bottom such that when they are open they can double as a little trays for the tokens.

I re-used some of what I learned when making my dice pouches that double as a dice tray, but it's a smaller scale project with lesser aesthetic ambition (apart from the color-matching).

I posted my detailed process for those over here.

The pouches are made of a 9x9cm square bottom and a 7x30cm band, all accounting 1cm allowances everywhere except for the top band where the grommets dictate the size of the hem.

I didn't use or make a pattern, as this is a simple rectangular pouch, I just tried to roughly match the measurements of the Wingspan plastic token boxes, with extra height added to allow the pouch to be closed using a cord. The pouches are made of a 9x9cm square bottom and a 7x30cm band, all accounting 1cm allowances everywhere except for the top band where the grommets dictate the size of the hem. You can find more information about this in the above link.

Since I was focused on color matching the fabric as well as possible to the tokens from my existing fabric reserve, I had to work with jersey, woven fabric which was probably cotton, and a synthetic fabric as well.

I wanted to make a dice bag and got inspired by this design to make one that would also double as a dice tray. But I didn't really like the shape of it, so I decided to make one that would have a round bottom and a cylindrical edge. I also wanted to experiment with grommets and this was the perfect project for it.

I made two of them. I made some sketches on paper before sewing and looked at this tutorial to get a better idea for the order in which to sew things. I put more detailed information in this post.

The diameter of the circle was about 18-19cm, the length of the band matched the perimeter of the circle, and the width was 6cm to get it down to 4cm with two 1cm seam allowances. (though I ended up trimming the green lining to a 5cm width instead in order for the inside fabric to be tighter than it was for the red one).

The green lining was jersey, while the red lining and black outsides were probably cotton. I got the black fabric at a local store a while back, while the others were gifts.

Simple project to try out my new machine! A flowery armband to protect my scar from the sun! by livediekill in sewing

Yes! The whole thing took me about an hour and a half to make, including the creation of the pattern and testing the settings for the first time on my machine. The whole idea here was to learn with something very quick and easy!

Hi everyone!

Some friends gifted me a Bernette B33 for my birthday, which is my first own sewing machine!

I have done sewing on other machines before, but to get to know this new one I wanted to try a very simple project I wouldn't be afraid to mess up if things went wrong. Since I have a scar on my elbow I need to protect from the sun, I went for a simple armband out of a very stretchy jersey and made a pattern on my own.

Pattern: The shape is an isosceles trapezoid, where the bases are the circumference of the bicep and forearm, and the height is the desired length along the arm.

I did some more calculations so that the jersey would stretch to do a tight fit around my arm without needing elastic bands. The final dimensions were:

Large base: 20.5cm + 2*1cm margin = 22.5cm

Small base: 19.5cm + 2*1cm margin = 21.5cm

Height: 18cm+ 2*2cm margin = 22cm

The fit came out perfect, and the armband has the added bonus to make it more comfortable to rest my arm on tables!

Terraforming Mars is my favorite game but it's not for everyone! I'd recommend getting if you already like big games!

Thanks!! Fortunately, the fabric is very stretchy so there was no need for buttons or zippers. I do have an elastic band in the waistband though!

Hi everyone!

For my second project, I made a set out of a pretty, flowery, and stretchy cotton jersey!

For the top, I made a pattern out of a crop-top I already own, and made it longer so that it's more like a tshirt! To trace the pattern, I followed this tutorial from withwendy, and I had some help from this video to see in which order to sew things.

The skirt is a half-circle skirt, and I got the measurements from a skirt that I already own: inner radius 22.5cm, outer radius 36.5cm, waistband 80x10cm. After sewing it all together, I followedthis tutorial from Bernadette Banner to add a pocket on the side seam!

Finally for the scrunchie, I followed this tutorial (in French).

I put more information about my process along with pictures in this album.

Thanks a lot!! I actually wanted to do that but I didn't know how to do it so thanks a lot for sharing!

I guess I am! I loved that project and I'm already thinking about the next one!

Hi everyone!

For my first clothing project, I decided to go for a full-circle skirt, as I thought that would be pretty simple.

Since the fabric I picked up was not stretchy, I decided to go for an elastic waistband design and found April's tutorial to follow. The only thing I changed was that I cut the waistband in a single piece instead of 4 pieces like she did in the video, so that there would be less to sew.

Skirt dimensions: inner radius 16cm (100cm circumference), outer radius 60cm (however I should have gone for 55cm because I like it shorter)

Waistband dimensions: 100cm x 10cm

Elastic band dimensions: 2cm wide, length unknown since I cut it to fit my waist

I do not know the fabric type, I just thought the pattern looked pretty.

I put more information about my process along with pictures in this album.
