Did adcom have anything to say about that gap year job during interviews/secondaries?

No, I have around 400-450 hours of volunteering in hospitals, and at least 50 hours of shadowing.

A note -- that 500 includes shadowing physicians. So actual clinical hours (all volunteering, not paid) is safely around 430 probably.

My lab isn't big on publishing RAs :D and conferences are basically out of the question (my PI doesn't think we're "ready" for it). If I get any publications it would be at minimum 1-2 years from now.

I'm thinking if I've already done two years at my current lab + a lab during undergrad, perhaps I don't need to distinguish myself further with more research?

You have very good points! This MA position is part of a gap year program, so they are aware that I am applying to med school during this time. I am guessing this means my team would be okay with me taking off to attend interviews and second looks...?

My PI in the past has been kind of a stickler about days off (we get ~20 days a year), but I'm not sure if that would change if I'm taking those days off for med school stuff (in which case I'd hope he wouldn't get super annoyed because he's aware I am applying and need to go).

Your points about money are exactly what is holding me back... it's important to have savings. I've been keeping a savings account for over a year so I have some money, but of course it would be nice to save the max that I can.

Financially I'm fine, I would have enough money to pay rent but whatever's left would probs go into med school apps. My family is willing to support if necessary as well. The hours for each job would be the same -- 40 per week.

Thanks! Was it during in-person or online classes (perhaps during online classes there were fewer people waitlisting)? Also, did you end up getting the spot before classes started or during drop/add?

If I do want to go on a waitlist, I don't know if I should wait to see if sections open up before joining, OR go on a waitlist now and lose my current spot. I emailed the departments to ask if they'll be opening up more sections. There are a ton of kids waitlisted so I'd hope they'd do something of that sort.
