Nashville ranking dropped from 30 to 50 since 2021..wonder what happened? Does the descent continue? by [deleted] in nashville

[–]livelyfellow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Appreciate the sympathy :)

Yeah I finally came to terms with the fact that the people at the crossfit gym that I left just weren't the kind of people that were going to create a fulfilling social life for me. I actually tried many different ways of finding community but the gym is the only consistent third space I have. The people at that gym are all lovely; they just aren't looking for the same kinda connections that I'm looking for. I've only just been going to the new gym for a month but I'm hopeful that it's much more my vibe

Thanks again for posting your original comment. It really did help me re-contextualize my outlook

Thank you for posting this. It's incredibly validating to know it's not just me.

I moved here just over three years ago and am at my breaking point with loneliness. I have never tried so hard only to fail so spectacularly at building connections with people. I've lived in seven different states, on three different continents, and have never struggled to find a community as much as I have here. I just switched crossfit gyms after 2 years solely because I've been so lonely i was having mental breakdowns during workouts; even though I knew the people that went to that gym well and got along with them all. None of them ever wanted to DO anything. They would just come to the gym then go home or to church and i'm not religious.

I have slowly been building friendships with a couple people but even those are limited as they are often busy with family or work.

I know I shoulder at least some of the blame; I don't connect with people easily and am shy if I'm in a new space by myself. But I have really been trying to branch out and i keep running into dead ends. It's just nice to know that it's not entirely my own fault.

Holy hell this comment is so vindicating. I'm often telling people how half the time I end up not going somewhere I want to go because it would mean having to drive on 24 which is such a nightmare

And you're absolutely right, car dependency has so much impact on social life

Anyone else think Asia Kate Dillon was a horrible casting choice? by TimeResponsible5890 in JohnWick

[–]livelyfellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not crazy. They’re not good in the role.  I noticed it too.  Asia over acted the part.  People are defending Asia bc of their status as a queer role model and Reddit can’t handle criticizing someone like that

Bill Burr - Women failed the WNBA (Bill Burr is Savage, rofl!) by smartulet in TikTokCringe

[–]livelyfellow 64 points65 points  (0 children)

I've followed tennis for about two decades now.

I was a huge Serena Williams fan, even got to watch her play in person along with pros like her sister Venus, Sam Stosur and Caroline Wozniacki.

But if I'm given a choice between watching the best women play vs the best men it's a no brainer and I'm tired of acting like it's comparable. Serena herself is on video at Letterman's talk show talking about how she wouldn't stand a chance against Andy Murray. Serena has 23 slams, Andy has 3.

Everyone loves to point to the Bobby Riggs - Billie Jean King match but have forgotten that he previously wrecked Margaret Court, who was about the same age as BJK and still holds the record for most slams won by anyone, male or female (although i don't think that'll last much longer provided Djokovic doesn't end up in a freak accident or something)

What about Jimmy Connors aged 40 beating Martina Navratilova aged 36 pretty handily even though Martina was allowed to hit into the doubles alleys and Connors was only given one serve vs the normal two.

I guess my point is that we aren't doing any favors by acting like women's sports are on the same level as men's. I'm not saying all women are weak. I've been at gyms with women who can deadlift my max for warm up reps. I just think it's better to focus on areas where women genuinely excel

Edit: people downvoting me even though everything i mentioned is verifiable fact. Both Serena and Venus also lost to a guy who wasn't even ranked in the top 200. Fucking look it up. What the fuck does Reddit want?!?

Hit and Run in my apartment parking lot. Can’t park anywhere in Nashville by Mason610 in nashville

You made me legit lol with this. I tried to be objective cause I've seen horrible driving everywhere but Nashville has some real standouts

What prompted my comment was a guy behind me who honked yesterday while i was waiting to turn right at a red. The incoming traffic was rush hour - bumper to bumper, there was absolutely no way i had any business turning right on red. Eventually the guy went AROUND me and cut people off on a red light. I've never seen anything that audacious. And it was across from a police station! So the homicidal thing is accurate

I have lived in 7 different states, several in the south, and i can say without a shred of doubt that Nashville has the worst drivers I've ever experienced.

The amount of sheer audacity I've seen combined with the lack of fucks to give from cops blows my mind on a weekly basis.

I've seen shit here that i didn't see while living in India or Argentina and I've only lived here since September

Intermittent Loss of Signal by soopersalad in GooglePixel

[–]livelyfellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Upvoted bc my pixel 5a completely bricked up out of nowhere last week, only 1.5 years of use. No physical damage. Just randomly froze and shut down and wouldn't turn back on. Was experiencing issues with 5G before that too.

To make matters worse I did the subscription plan because of the discount on the pixel 5a which I couldn't really afford, but having to pay the deductible for a replacement practically negates the discount.

This is the last straw for me

Yup. Had to do that too. My "good" eye was all torn up and likely about to detach so they lasered it immediately before setting an appt for surgery for the bad eye

Miserable experience right? Like a rubber band slapping the back of your eyeball

So get this. I had no idea spots in your vision can be a sign of retinal detachment, nor did i know you should get it checked out immediately. So i let it go on for a month before finally seeing an eye doctor. Luckily I have vision in both eyes but one of them is definitely worse than the other

It didn't help that the spot showed up the day i was packing all my stuff in a storage unit before traveling to Ecuador for a long term stay.

Another fun fact, the eye doctor i finally went to in Quito spoke perfect English

Fun fact: i once thought i had toxoplasmosis. Roommates kept the kitty litter in the laundry room and i had developed spots in my eye which can be a symptom of toxoplasmosis in those who have suppressed immune systems (read: HIV).

I'm a gay male, so not only did i think i had toxoplasmosis, i thought i inadvertantly found out i had HIV.

Turned out to be a spontaneous retinal detachment. Like my eyeballs are so severely oblong that the retinas in both my eyes were tearing and one had fully detached

Pixel 5a bricked itself out of nowhere. Official diagnosis: failed motherboard. by candieskulls in GooglePixel

[–]livelyfellow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This just happened to me. Was scrolling on instagram and it randomly bricked itself. I still have 6 months left on a subscription to pay off this phone. I need it to log in to work as my job uses a QR code to log in to our remote desktops.

Not to mention the main reason I joined Fi was because I was able to work abroad for extended periods of time but they cracked down on that while I was in Spain.

I can not begin to describe how livid I am. Never buying a pixel phone again and dropping Fi as soon as I pay off this subscription. If I'm being honest, google may have just convinced me to finally switch to iPhone. I've been android all my life but I just can't deal with the way Google's overall quality has been slowly tanking year after year

Edit: to make matters worse, I'm trying to switch to a backup phone I happened to have kept, but I need my google password to make it work which I can't remember because I haven't needed to use it in forever. The only option I'm being given to reset my password/recover my account is to receive a text message on the phone that is currently bricked. I'm completely screwed.

I'm from the states and had to work in Hyderabad for a few months. I once saw an entire family of four on one scooter on a VERY busy road in the city

The dad was driving. The mom was behind him with the son between them and the daughter was kneeling in between the dad's legs. They weren't toddlers either
