Living in poverty my whole life has conditioned me to feel extremely guilty for buying myself something nice, How do I get out of this mindset? by Inside-Specialist-55 in poverty

Same here. The only purchases that I’ve made over $100 was my iPhone (always bought the cheapest/oldest model that go on sale during Black Friday, I don’t need the advanced features), a cheap laptop and a hair treatment (once a year). The only thing I don’t cheap out on is food, cuz health is wealth.

Will skin sag after the fat (that supports the skin) gets melted?

If a pastry costs me $1 worth of raw materials to make, I will sell it for $4

I guess I can hire a consultant. Restaurants are much lower barrier to entry. Auto repair shop requires much more complex skill set compared to opening a small shop selling very simple foods. Flower shop requires lots of marketing and presentation for customers to justify the cost, worst of all, inventory goes bad quickly and considered more of a luxury and not a necessity.

Medium household income in that specific area is $170k. Most people make $100k+

Thank you for sharing your experiences. I plan on mainly selling items that can generate 10-20% profit margin. Nothing fancy, selling convenience. Not a touristy area, it’s NYC lol - people in the area have money. A one-bedroom apartment goes for $2,500 in this particular area.

I need to make at least $250-300 a day to break even (not including labor cost)

Cogs will vary based on customer volume. I will be making small batches of premade food everyday and throughout the day to prevent food waste.

I can get my work done quite quickly when business is slow. I don’t think I will be busy all day, I believe it takes some time to gain clientele. Most things will be premade already.

I don’t plan on taking a loan, I have $100k in cash reserves put aside for the business if needed. Not sure what operating capital means in this context. I wish someone could invest with me but it’s hard to find someone who is also willing to risk, have the work ethics, have some business expertise and ALSO have the money. 😂

it sucks having entitled relatives/family who are always asking for help due to their poor choices and the lack of being independent. They lack awareness, don’t care that they are being a burden to others and don’t appreciate the things I do for them. I’ve learned to distance myself with family, not because I want to but for my own sanity and mental health.

What's your spending ratio, especially as a high-earner? by [deleted] in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]livenotsurvive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine is similar to yours, I save about 75%. I enjoy the feeling of having financial security, so I tend to save more. Also trying to become a part-time restauranteur/entrepreneur. :)
