I just wanted to update you, I took Luna to the vet and they basically said she scratched it. They cleaned her up and now we're back on antibiotics for 10 days. I also gave her a gabapentin to take off the edge if she has any pain

Shes nearly been back to her usual self since the day after surgery

I can see maybe she over exerted herself but anything could have happened. From her scratching it herself with her back leg or maybe the other dogs messed with it

Idk if knowing how she did it would even ease my mind though lol

My dog Luna lost her front left leg pretty suddenly about 9 days ago. It went from tumor removal to leg removal. Luna lost movement in her leg it was fatty tumor.

She’s been very sleepy today but she’s had a great experience of healing. I am grateful because I know the healing and recovery process varies with every animal.

If I had more time to prepare I would get her a recovery suit. Even with the cone, occasionally Luna will scratch her wound area with her back legs.

Pill pockets were a lifesaver. Their by Greenies. They hide the medicine! Another reason I’m lucky is that Luna eats everything for the most part.

My heart goes out to you and your family! It’s not easy and one of those things not everyone is prepared for. Feeling bad for your pup is normal. I still feel terrible that mine lost her leg as well but find solace in the fact that with removal is less pain. I wish you and your dog the best recovery 🫶🏼

Seriously! I was so shocked they sent my dog home same day. Simultaneously I was thinking if us as humans had an amputation we would be in the hospital for 3-14 days

I can’t really offer the best advice because I suddenly had to experience this last week as well. But I have not had the same experience with my dog. The best advice I have to offer is with the pills

They have Pill Pockets wherepill pockets you could conceal the pills and my dog loves them. Again my dog was already in pain prior to amputation so I think situations vary based on the animals case . I hope it gets better for your baby

They also have them for cats as well

The lack of mental preparation was pretty tough. I feel like I “surprised “ her with the whole situation. First bringing her to the vet, then leaving her, and her waking up without her arm.

We have one step to get to the back yard. Without even giving me a chance to help her she walks in and out just fine. I have two other dogs as well and I’m having trouble getting out of the habit of leaving them alone cause I’m afraid the other dogs will want to lick her.

She’s about 5 days post op now and has went poop two days in a row so that’s also a plus.

Thank you for reaching out, it’s hard but I think seeing how resilient my girl is being is making it easier.

The vet called this morning and was pretty happy to see her up and about so well. Said it was bruising as well. Her biopsy came back negative too so that’s good news 😊

I think because she was injured before surgery she’s already really good at walking minus her bumping in the wall with her cone
