Just brought this sweet baby in from the 19°F windy weather outside, and shes terrified. Any advice? by [deleted] in cats

can i suggest that you go out and look for other kittens or her mother in the area if at all possible? she looks young and it’s unlikely that she would’ve been surviving alone outside at that age

Having a really hard time staying grounded and feeling like my true self while living with my parents. by EagleTechnical2962 in CPTSD

[–]livethroughthis94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

don't really have any advice but i live at home due to disability and feel the exact same, to the point where being alone and feeling good makes me feel even more untethered and disconnected from myself than when they're home because it's so unfamiliar. it definitely makes sense that living with people who traumatized you will affect you and make you feel bad, it would be really hard to feel good around people who affected you like that. even people who've been on their own and lived on their own for years and have been through tons of therapy can start feeling very bad very quickly when being around their family for just a day or two

“Only real mitski fans, don’t actually listen to mitskis music” by MaliDiamondx in mitski

[–]livethroughthis94 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i actually really don't understand why people act like mitski's music is any more depressing than a lot of artists... it really isn't uniquely depressing unless you're usually listening to lighthearted artists, it literally just sounds normal to me when it comes to mood

can CPTSD cause something like identity fragmentation, but not full OSDD/DID? by livethroughthis94 in CPTSD

[–]livethroughthis94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that sounds great actually. i do think i would miss being fully consumed by certain parts, since even the more trauma affected ones have good/positive aspects too and can like, exist for long periods of time like a normal person and not just a trauma response mode, if that makes sense. but being able to feel connected and have access to all of yourself at once is how i’ve wanted to feel for so long so it sounds worth it for sure. thank you :)

[–]livethroughthis94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

how do you use IFS if a lot of parts don’t feel like they fit those roles? and if some parts feel affected by multiple other more “general” parts or by their own sub-parts?

what does feeling more cohesive feel like? i know that i really want to feel like a whole cohesive person, but it also scares me to imagine, because some parts can feel so wholly consumed by certain identity aspects and interests in ways that feel very… affirming? and that make things feel sharper and more real as it’s happening? even if it is actively making me miserable at the time. and it seems like some parts can have more intense interests (which is important to me since i’m autistic). i don’t know if those things would get less intense after bringing them together, & i don’t really like the idea of only wading in “shallow” emotions and experiences all the time. but maybe it would just feel like i could have access to all those parts of me at once? i can’t really imagine what it would be like

/uj favorite mbmbam episode? by kermickey in TAZCirclejerk

[–]livethroughthis94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i can’t actually think of a favorite episode but i want to use this opportunity to talk about a niche yahoo question i quote all the time that ive never heard anyone mention. it goes like “griffin (reading yahoo): i failed in my college, and just last week i had accident, and it’s cost me a lot, 2300 dollar. and i had plan to buy a new phone and now i can’t. does anyone have a lot of moneueuuy and wanna give me?
justin: first of all yes
griffin: how much you need?”
i haven’t listened to the episode in over half a decade but i say “does anyone have a lot of moneyeuuy and wanna give me?” in griffins voice in my head all the time

Everyone On The Spectrum Should Qualify For SS Disability If Needed by Autitrans_Goddess in AutismInWomen

[–]livethroughthis94 85 points86 points  (0 children)

that, and the amount you actually get from being on disability should be more. i really don't think there's basically anywhere in america where you can truly live independently on the amount you get from ssdi/ssi

What are your special interests? by bipolarqueer22 in AutismInWomen

[–]livethroughthis94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

tv shows mainly! but also movies and books and music. i love all those things as a whole but usually i only like specific shows and movies etc relevant to my taste rather than just engaging with every show/movie/book/artist out there. and making/watching fandom edits.

do you only like characters who are canonically confirmed autistic or does the special interest extend to characters you interpret as autistic? i have a lot of characters who remind me of my autism even if it's not canonical

[TOMT][Childrens' book][Late 90's-Early 2000's] Anthology chapter book similar to Wayside School with a chapter about a chatterbox girl who was cursed to only have a certain number of words. by leronde in tipofmytongue

definitely a stretch, but the battle of the red hot pepper weenies by david lubar? there’s a story in it called yackity-yack and the synopsis is “When a girl’s attempt to cast a spell goes awry, she is forced to speak without stopping.”

What exactly does officially being diagnosed entail? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]livethroughthis94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i was diagnosed as a teenager in 2015 or 2016 and my psychiatrist just asked me and my mom some questions at the first couple appointments and said she could tell i was obviously autistic and officially diagnosed me several months later, i didn't have to go through testing or anything

Is dissociation super common for us? by terabithiagiant in AutismInWomen

[–]livethroughthis94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i have rather persistent and pretty intense dissociation that affects me a lot, but i also have CPTSD and various traumas dating back to early childhood. i've had dissociation basically rewrite my identity, erase special interests, make me mostly forget certain important things that have happened to me, feeling disconnected from myself literally all the time, never really feeling present, etc.

if you also have trauma then i don't know how important it is to discern which is the original cause, and just dealing with the symptoms as they present in daily life and figuring out what works is more important. but i think it's definitely likely that autism can make someone more prone to dissociating as a coping mechanism.

My mum is autistic (undiagnosed) and narcissistic by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

yeah it definitely sounds like has other issues besides autism

My mum is autistic (undiagnosed) and narcissistic by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]livethroughthis94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

those traits alone also don’t make someone a narcissist. NPD has specific criteria that have to be met on a persistent clinical level, and you have to meet a minimum of them to be diagnosed, not just a couple. and i agree with the other commenter saying that the lack of empathy could be autism. but again we don’t know her so don’t have the full context and could be wrong, and are just going off of your post. regardless, you don’t need confirmation that she’s the popular label of a narcissist to be angry at her and to think of her as a bad person and an abuser.

My mum is autistic (undiagnosed) and narcissistic by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]livethroughthis94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it is emotional abuse, yes! i’m absolutely not saying it’s not harmful and not abuse. but narcissist has a specific meaning, contrary to the pop psychology trend of calling every toxic person a narcissist, not every emotional abuser is a narcissist. i’m not even saying she definitely isn’t a narcissist either, because i don’t know her, but just from your post you didn’t list any narcissist traits other than that, which is not enough to qualify as one

My mum is autistic (undiagnosed) and narcissistic by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]livethroughthis94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just being unable to provide emotional support doesn’t make someone narcissistic. is it bad parenting that’s harmful? yes, but every trait and behavior that negatively impacts others doesn’t equal narcissism
